@BostonByBirth What a terrible loss for you and your family. I cannot imagine the pain. Others here have said it: your son, JC, did contribute to mankind. He brought joy to all who were lucky to meet him. Wishing you peace and the easing of your grief.
@RealRonHoward@OscarNothing Almost everything searched for online must be vetted. Human bias invariably creeps in. Humans supply the info from which AI draws; logically that info will reflect a leaning one way or the other. Mr. Howard, I enjoy your work & value its merits far above anything AI “creates”.
@SalmanRushdie Just about finished reading Knife. Devastating. One of my biggest takeaways is that you are an exceedingly healthy, cogent man. Not everyone possesses the ability for such deep introspection as to pull off the inner conversation with “A”. You are strong(er).
@ShawnaCoppola Yes, I get it. @ShawnaCoppola “Learning to read to reading to learn” is a nice-sounding concept, isn’t it? Clever. Great marketing. I reacted to the rest of that piece because the vocabulary (reading) problem is perpetuated by the over-reliance in K-3 on reading programs.
@ShawnaCoppola If substantial content was delivered in the elementary social studies & science curricula plus allowing elementary students choice in their discretionary reading, appropriate vocabulary might increase. Also less time on screens of any type & more face-to-face conversation helps.
@ShawnaCoppola This so reminds me of the movie Paula Salvio showed us called Rabbit Proof Fence. What of voice? What of The Skin that We Speak? What of identity when you’re hoping students will be writers…?
Reading @hwinkler4real autobiography Being Henry: The Fonz…and Beyond. Finding it inspirational. Your voice rings true as do your struggles, which many experience. Glad you published it. You have some really great people around you.
@ModestTeacher Absolutely I would. Would I do some things a little differently? Yes. But I learned so much about humanity throughout my career. Put a fine point on my developing empathy and compassion. And the profession taught me patience, at which everything and everyone else failed utterly.
@KyleneBeers Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for the When Kids Can’t Read revision. Initially I skipped around in the book locating resources. Just sat down to start reading it cover-to-cover. You’re spot-on as always. Required reading for all educators.
@KyleneBeers The truth is scary to some people. What I have always appreciated about your work - all of it - is that it comes from a competent, passionate practitioner who wants to see ALL students succeed. On another note: Congratulations! You’ve written a book that someone wants to ban! 😃
@ShawnaCoppola Had to listen to that podcast in small doses. Made me so very very angry and sad. Very difficult to break the baked-in habits when students get to high school. And I agree - this went on way way too long - nearly killed literacy. 😞
