STUDENT JAILED FOR STABBING UNIVERSITY STUDENT FIVE TIMES IN LEICESTER

A 19-year-old university student has been jailed for 10 years after stabbing another student five times during a fatal confrontation in Leicester city centre.

Harper Dennis, a first-year University of Leicester student, was found guilty of manslaughter, possession of an offensive weapon and failing to provide his phone PIN.

He was cleared of murder following a trial at Leicester Crown Court.

De Montfort University student Khaleed Oladipo, 20, was stabbed in Oxford Street shortly after 5pm on February 3.

Despite members of the public rushing to help, Khaleed died in hospital later that evening.

Detectives pieced together the attack using CCTV, witness accounts, forensic evidence and crucial dashcam footage from a passing motorist.

The footage showed Dennis grappling with Khaleed before stabbing him repeatedly in the chest and fleeing the scene.

Police recovered the knife, with DNA on the handle matching Dennis and blood on the blade matching Khaleed.

Investigators also uncovered messages suggesting the pair had been involved in a monetary dispute, with threats allegedly made in the weeks before the killing.

Dennis claimed he acted in self-defence but was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 10 years behind bars.

Police said the case highlighted the devastating consequences of carrying and using a knife — leaving a young man dead with his whole life ahead of him.
