Shark Dissection 2021 was a great success! Students applied all of their knowledge of shark anatomy today. It was amazing to see their connections from classroom learning to our exploration of real sharks. #WatchWINGSSoar
Last Friday all 5th-graders participated in Hour of Code. We had a great time learning new skills and stretching our thinking to solve problems. Mrs. Cordova even received a Scratch lesson from one of the students. #WatchWINGSSoar
We’ve been busy planting lettuce, carrots, radishes, peas, garlic, parsley, and tomatoes. We even helped our first-grade friends plant their own garden plot. Our next step is to design a watering system upgrade.
Fifth-graders worked together to restore the benches in our school garden. They sanded and stained them. Stay tuned for our next beautification project!
4th/5th grade students started a garden project playlist to get our school garden started. We started with measuring the plots and calculating the area and volume. They started their plans on graph paper. Next steps are to research plants for the season and build their models.
Fourth-graders worked in collaborative teams to Save Fred! Students used the engineering design process to develop solutions and turn their paper clips into tools. They made so many improvements during the rescue!
We had a successful day of math station rotations. Students focused on multiplying decimals, using the area model with place value blocks to solve multiplication problems, numberless word problems with the 3-Read Protocol, and ST Math. #BlendedLearning
5th graders chose how to demonstrate their understanding of close reading. This is the first skill in our progression for 5.RL/RI.1. They used a single-point rubric and had to evaluate the best way to show their learning. They created posters, slides, videos, etc. #StudentAgency
5th graders used Flipgrid to reflect on their math learning related to multiplying and dividing by powers of 10. We tested out the green screen pod for some privacy while recording. #ReflectionsForDeeperUnderstanding#WatchWINGSSoar

5th graders had a “wonder”ful Wednesday researching answers to their Wonder Wall questions. They left with more burning questions and are driven to learn more about these topics. #WonderWall#Curiosity#WatchWINGSSoar@trev_mackenzie
