I’m staunchly anti-life jacket for swimming safety after one of my kids lost his footing in a kiddie pool ending up face-down prone in the water unable to right himself requiring our intervention. The jacket’s length and back padding kept his face in the water. (1/2)

I spent some time with my boys in our hillbilly above-ground pool this afternoon. My 4 year-old is able to stand in the pool, but I always have him wear a life jacket, just in case. He was playing about 3 feet away from me when I looked down to try to scoop some pieces of grass from the pool, and in that brief moment, I saw him struggle out of the corner of me eye.

He'd somehow gotten turned upside down while playing with a pool tube, and even though he had the vest on, I think his feet had gotten caught on the tube, and his face was under water. Thankfully, I was right there and able to grab him and put him back on his feet. He was quite scared, but perfectly ok once he calmed down, praise the Lord.

Just a reminder of how quickly the unexpected can happen with little ones in a pool.

Some of the anger I saw from pro-lifers responding to my tweets was essentially, "how dare you insinuate that pro-life people would abort a child with Down Syndrome!"

Guys, I've been in the care of souls business for 18 years now. And when you're in the care of souls business, something you see often is people who have been lifelong, devout Christians completely bail on the faith the SECOND holding to it requires them to suffer.

People who have spent decades faithfully coming to worship will leave forever the second their kids come out to them and tell them they have to choose between holding to the Bible and having a relationship with their kids. People who have always upheld what the church teaches about cohabitation immediately reject it the second their kids start shacking up.

People who lament the evils of divorce will get divorced the second they think they can come out of the situation better off, and they will give you every rationalization for why the words of Jesus don't apply to them. Ask your pastors about this. Dudes will leave their congregations, go to another down the street to another congregation with their mistress on their arm and act like nothing happened, utterly convinced that God supports them in doing so.

People who have thanked you for preaching against the idolatrous nature of youth sports that keeps kids out of church on Sundays will immediately embrace the idol when their kids have the opportunity to join a travel team. And so on.

And yes, when people who have boldly and faithfully stood against the evils of abortion find themselves carrying an unwanted child? They will often employ the very same vile rationalizations that they have condemned fifty trillion times before.

Do people who identify as pro-life have fewer abortion than pro-choicers? Of course. But with love and respect, you are absolutely clueless if you think that a notable percentage of women having abortion weren't pro-life identifying ladies until the moment their desire for abortion overpowered their faith and convinctions.

And, more to the point, if you are offended by this assertion because you know would never in a million billion years ever do this, you are clueless to the power of the sinful nature that lurks within you. If you think you would stand where they fell because you are more pious, more devout, more devoted, etc...well, pride comes before destruction.

Man, wife and their children.
Making children in test tubes, by surrogate, randomly with strangers will not save society from hopelessness and chaos. Children aren't toys, they are blessings from God and NEED their mother and father united for life to thrive.

As I hear frequently from ‘creators’ on the left:

‘It’s not FOR you.’

Specifically written as a mythos for the Anglo-Saxons of England…not to mention an exploration of issues of character, sacrifice and perseverance that a linguist and English professor who once stared out on the slaughter and horror of the Western Front of World War I, and had that horror stare back into him.

It has diddly and squat to do with issues of ‘race’ in the modern sense.

People who interpret everything through the cracked lens of the Eternal Now to somehow exactly see their exact reflection in order to take any value from a story should move on to coloring books appropriate for their stunted development.

I’m neither a gardener nor a Hobbit but I aspire to be as loyal a friend as Sam Gamgee.

I’m not a wilderness survival expert and close quarters sword master with a hidden kingly birthright but I struggle with shouldering responsibility like Aragorn.

I’m not an inherently graceful and gifted elf with hundreds of years of life experience who would live forever absent trauma, but I hope to put everything at risk to fully commit to a just cause like Legolas.

I have never been a poor manual labor miner raised on tales of the past glories of my people who has to put his life in the hands of someone he was raised to deeply mistrust in a long and trying near-hopeless trial, but I would like to have a heart open to friendship and overcoming preconceptions like Gimli.

I want to rise from lassitude and complacency to accomplish great things like Theoden.

I want to fight past my fears and stand defiant before the greatest enemy despite my weakness like Eowyn.

If you can’t see something in a story because you can’t identify a self-insert character…that’s a you problem. Find a better frame, you’ll learn more.

This has been widely mocked, and for good reason. It is very important the right does not fall into the go-nowhere trap of the Woah Is Me, "Rich Men North of Richmond" politics of resentment and helplessness where the very idea of rich people (bad) and workers (good) are presented as antagonistic and morally significant categories. Utter leftist nonsense. Innumerate. Dumb. And does absolutely nothing to address economic problems (of which there are many), since the entire framing has no bearing at all on reality.

Neither does this imply that just mouthing the phrase "free market," or "bootstraps" is a better right-wing position, since, yes, a variety of forces (mass immigration, Civil Rights Law, administrative bloat) and incentive architectures (short-term cheap goods v. long term infrastructure build-out) and the problem of what and how things get measured (not always the most important stuff, and not always well) has distorted the economy in all sorts of harmful ways that has left many Americans in the cold but which do not reflect either their individual merit or the rightful advantages they *ought* to enjoy by virtue of being Americans.

These distortions can be addressed head on and without platitudes or sentimentalism for the poor, sad, abused, beleaguered "working class." Maybe this stuff plays well with the base, but I sort of doubt it. It's cheap and warmed over and sickeningly vulgar.

I’d like to ask my non-conservative followers to pay attention here for a moment. I don’t need a response or a rebuttal or a ‘whatabout.’ Just read on and consider what I’m saying. Please.

We are only a few weeks removed from a leading conservative figure being shot in the throat and killed by a leftist, for and during his speech, at a public speaking event. Stunning, jarring numbers of leftist Americans justified or celebrated this assassination, aligning with multiple public polls showing that a sizable minority of leftists in this country think political violence can be acceptable.

Today — just today — many conservatives are thinking about:

(1) a major leftist statewide candidate being exposed for sending texts to a political opponent (R) explicitly hoping for the death of another conservative political opponent…along with the deaths of that opponents’ young children. He WROTE DOWN that the pain of those deaths might promote his own agenda, which would be worth it, in his estimation. This candidate is now condemning his current conservative opponent for noticing this information.

And also (2) a development in the case of a leftist would-be assassin of a conservative Supreme Court Justice, who traveled across the country, heavily armed, with the stated intent of murdering up to three right-leaning Justices because he was angry about their abortion jurisprudence. The leftist judge in the case rejected prosecutors’ request for a multi-decade sentence, giving the defense team the very lenient sentence they’d sought. The leftist judge, in her reasoning, cited the criminal’s trans identity as a factor & expressed happiness that the assassination plot and its aftermath helped with the criminal’s family therapy around the trans issue.

And also (3) yet another violent leftist attack — this time an apparent ambush — against federal immigration officers. This did not take place in Dallas, where a leftist sniper very recently went on a deadly spree while trying to murder as many ICE officers as possible. This one happened in Illinois, where the leftist governor just called these officers “jack booted thugs.” Violent attacks on these federal agents (thugs, fascists, gestapo, per various leading leftist politicians) are up approximately *one thousand percent,* per DHS.

And also (4) a prominent university being pressured into reversing its attempt to shut down a conservative event commemorating the second anniversary of the Oct 7 terrorist massacre of Jews — because, the school said, they were worried about the security situation around the event. They were referring, of course, to the violent Islamist-Leftist coalition pro-Hamas mob, which has engaged in harassment, threats, violence and murder ever since that mass slaughter.

AND YET, we see many of our leftist friends tweeting and posting about how *their opponents* are the “dangerous” and “authoritarian” “fascists.”

I ask you to try to contemplate, even for a quiet moment or two, how this might strike many of us.

I have a slightly different take. The Dad sent his kid off to a place famous for radical indoctrination and obviously didn’t monitor for the real possibility of being negatively affected in a big way. Dads do not have a “I didn’t know that could happen” card in this day and age - obviously he’s paying a giant price for the reality of what’s happened. I have two sons 23 and 21. We are a pro gun family. Conservative but low key about it. I refused to ship them off to a 4 year college-I thought that would be neglect on our part. One is in a trade school and works in a trade and one is in college part time while he works. I think imho that staying connected to reality by working your way through school in this era is preferable. I’m not against higher ed at all, I have an MBA. It’s served me well…but I worked too. It just seems so weird to me that the helicopter parent generation just turns over their kids to these insane institutions- “see you in 4 or 5 years” and then wonder what happened when they come out the other side - completely unrecognizable.
Just a thought for parents who have kids that are entering this impressionable time period of their lives

I am told that as a state representative this is the moment where I'm supposed to express my heartfelt condolences and then stand in solidarity with those on the other side of the aisle as we condemn political violence and stand unified as one people.

But we aren't "one people" are we?

The truth is we haven't been for some time now, and there is really no point in pretending anymore, if there ever was.

We are two very different peoples. We may occupy the same piece of geography, but that is where the similarities seem to abruptly end.

I convinced myself for a long time that whenever the left called me a racist, a bigot, a sexist, a fascist, a "threat to democracy" for even the most innocent of disagreements, that it was simply hyperbolic rhetoric done for effect.

And now the "effect" is a widow and two orphaned children, because the left couldn’t bear the thought of a peaceful man debating them and winning.

I don’t think they realize it yet, but murdering Charlie is going to be remembered as the day where we finally woke up to what this fight really is.

It’s not a civil dispute among fellow countrymen. It’s a war between diametrically opposed worldviews which cannot peacefully coexist with one another. One side will win, and one side will lose.

Charlie tried to win that fight through argumentation, through discussion, through peaceful resolution of differences.

And the other side murdered him.

Not because he was “extreme” or “inciting violence” or any other hyperbolic slur they hurled at him. They murdered him because he was effective. Because he was unafraid. Because he inspired others and made them feel like they had a voice, that they were not alone. And he did it at the very institutions which have fomented so much hatred toward conservatives.

I don’t want to “stand in solidarity” with the other side of the aisle. I want to defeat you. I want to defeat the godless ideology that kills babies in the womb, sterilizes confused children, turns our cities into cesspools of degeneracy and lawlessness…and that murdered Charlie Kirk.

Social media is aflame right now with leftist celebration of Charlie’s death.

I wonder if any among them understand what has just happened. If there is a Yamamoto somewhere in their midst warning, that all they have done is awoken a sleeping giant.

I doubt it. I think they gave up such introspection and self-awareness long ago.

I don’t know exactly what will happen next. I just know that it won’t be the same as what has happened in the past.

There will be thoughts and prayers…Charlie would have wanted prayers. Not for himself but for those left behind and for the country that he loved.

But then there will be a reckoning.

My Christian faith requires me to love my enemies and pray for those who curse me. It does not require me to stand idly by in the midst of savagery and barbarism...quite the opposite.

So every time I feel tired, every time I feel discouraged or overwhelmed, I am going to watch the video of a good man being murdered in Utah…I will force myself to watch it…and then I will return to the work of destroying the evil ideology responsible for that and so much more.

Rest with God Charlie, your fight is over.

Ours is just beginning.
