@BrndnStrssng For me the “trauma” parts, especially the flashbacks felt like Mary Lambert’s 1989 Pet Semetary. So I liked that. Also Ejiofor was doing an effective take on Jack Torrence.
@VinceMancini I found the book pretty obnoxious despite being an interesting story. The movie won me over with the incredible production value and Gosling smoothed over the smarmy edges from the source material.
@SiddhantAdlakha I enjoyed this movie quite a bit but I agree the political aspect of its story is hard to grasp and feels compromised. Good piece that gave me a lot to think about although I took something a little different from the treatment of the movie’s villains.
My son is so funny and I love him to death. He is an absolute goofball.
But he was an especially difficult baby. Most of the QTs I’ve seen to this post are people talking about how easy their babies were. Good for you I guess but that’s not a universal experience.
@VinceMancini This was really interesting, I’ll check it out. An editor is the perfect person to dive into the thorniness of reality television and TCAP specifically. Your interview skills are underrated. Or maybe they’re properly rated I don’t know who is rating these things!
This kind of message always gets construed as “look how accessible this camera is” when it should actually be “look at how composition, production design, lighting, wardrobe, and locations are so much more important than any specific camera.” It encourages me to work harder!
@VinceMancini I loved your piece on this doc, which I rewatched recently after many years. I’m seeing the new movie on Sunday and I assume you are also going to do a piece on that?
Whooping cough kills babies at a rate of like 5% of cases, which is awful.
For other preventable diseases, if you don’t want to vaccinate your child, you should still be able to do that. Just don’t put them in public school. I make that sound easy but hey life is hard, right?
Florida Surgeon General Dr Joseph Ladapo tells @jaketapper that the pertussis vaccine doesn’t work. That’s incorrect. The DTaP vaccine is 98% effective at preventing infection at 1 year and 71% effective at 5 years.
I have to watch this scene in its entirety any time it’s on my timeline. In another world, this absolutely should have been a star making scene for Aaron Pierre on the level of the “My name is Gladiator” scene for Russell Crowe. Alas, dumped on Netflix.
Very much feels like people are seeing their very first Spike Lee movie if they are taken aback by the music in Highest2Lowest. A maximalist music track is right up there with the double dolly shot as a signature for him.
@SiddhantAdlakha Beautiful review of a movie that is a lot more dense than some are claiming. I definitely took 217 as a Shining reference when I was watching it, especially when there’s a “Here’s Johnny” shot later in the movie. But I really appreciate your deeper look into what’s going on.
