@JonFraserTF Okay, isn’t the “departure tax” misleading? Isn’t the tax you have to pay capital gains tax that you would have to pay at some point in time anyway?
@LeslieBoerboon@darktriadtc@GadSaad “Departure tax” is a misleading term. It’s not a tax on leaving Canada, and nobody is taking 50% of your assets at the border. It’s simply capital gains tax on certain assets, triggered when you leave instead of when you eventually sell them.
@LeslieBoerboon@darktriadtc@GadSaad I call bullshit. If you have non registered assets, these have capital gains tax, which you would have to pay eventually anyway. There is no flat tax just for leaving. And they certainly don’t care what your reason is.
@JonFraserTF@LauraBabcock I have never heard her refer to having been anywhere outside of the country (and I watched the view and I listen to her podcast) and in general, I find that most conservatives do not travel outside of the US.
