The trap: #8 is a common way to measure success. But it’s the least relevant.

Look at 1-7. Success is often invisible.

I'm doing an odd task: Converting TypeScript to plain JS.

A client wants to use some React components written in TS, but their component library is JS.

Process:
1. Delete a few type annotations
2. Convert type definition to propTypes

Takeaway: TS requires little extra code.

Years later, I was working in Knockout. I wanted to work in React the moment it was open sourced. So I learned it at home. Then, I convinced my boss to let us use it on a project.

Summary: I control where I’m headed, not my job. My career trajectory is my responsibility.
