A Cambodian soldier posted a photo to thank his wife with the caption: Ever since you arrived at the front lines, you have become an integral part of our mission. You have helped load ammunition, prepare landmines, mortar shells, and RPGs for our fellow comrades to strike the Siamese (Thai soldiers). I love and thank you so much; you are a brave woman and my wife. You are part of a strong army..
Bringing a child into a conflict zone or involving a pregnant woman in military operations violates multiple international humanitarian standards including the Geneva Conventions, their Additional Protocols, and fundamental civilian protection principles under IHL

Cambodian soldiers brought their wives and two young children to live together inside bunkers, with the sound of the children crying in terror of gunfire amidst fierce fighting with Thai soldiers on the front lines..
The Geneva and Hague Conventions strictly prohibit using civilians or civilian structures as shields or military cover.
Such actions endanger innocent people and undermine the fundamental IHL principle of distinction between civilian and military targets

Thai security forces carried out a cross-border strike on two buildings in Poipet, Cambodia, on Monday afternoon after confirming they were being used both as bases for scammer networks and as sniper positions targeting Thailand.
The Burapha Task Force said the operation took place at 1:48pm on December 22, opposite Tha Kham subdistrict in Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province. Authorities said the buildings had been identified by relevant agencies as hosting Cambodian snipers who had fired into the Aranyaprathet area, and were also equipped with an anti-drone system.
The strike caused damage to the buildings, with no return fire reported from the Cambodian side. Officials said the operation also forced the scammer network operating there to abandon the site.

Cambodian Troops Use Historical Sites as Military Bases
Cambodian forces have reportedly used historical sites as military positions during ongoing clashes along the Thailand–Cambodia border, the 2nd Army Area said on December 20.
Videos and photos reviewed by Thai authorities show civilians, including women and children, placed in combat zones, while landmines and explosives were handled within these areas.
The army highlighted three key violations: using historical sites for military purposes; involving civilians in handling weapons and explosives, particularly at Ta Kwai Temple; and exposing civilians to combat to support military operations directly or indirectly.

Thai Navy Says Cambodia Violated Landmine Ban
The Royal Thai Navy said on December 18 it has found clear evidence that Cambodia violated the 1997 Ottawa Convention and international humanitarian law after Thai forces retook former Cambodian military positions near the border.
Navy spokesman Rear Adm. Parach Rattanachaiyaphan said troops discovered 16 operational anti-personnel landmines, modified from anti-tank mines, at a site in Ban Nong Ree, posing a serious threat to soldiers and civilians.
Thai authorities also said they seized Cambodian military documents showing systematic training in the use of PMN-2 anti-personnel mines, with records dated Oct. 7, 2024. The navy said the findings point to deliberate and ongoing use of banned weapons.
Thailand condemned the actions, called on Cambodia to stop immediately, and reaffirmed its commitment to protect national security and civilians in line with international law. #landmine #ThailandCambodia
