Say thank you. Say I love you. Tell people they look beautiful. Tell people you appreciate them. It takes so little to make other people feel seen, heard, appreciated and loved.
Sorcerer turned 49 years old this week. Please believe me when I say you’re doing a disservice to yourself if you haven’t seen this film- it’s a masterpiece. Directed by William Friedkin and featuring Roy Scheider, the acting, story & the filmmaking here are all tremendous. The last 90 minutes of this film, I barely exhaled. I’m begging you to see this if you haven’t already.
John Carpenter & Dean Cundey’s work together resulted in some of horror’s most atmospheric shots, that leaned into the genre’s visual past while at the same time, pushing it forward. Cundey would tell me of his love of 1950’s monster films that kickstarted his imagination in our interview for “Horror in Haddonfield”.
Blow Out, not Pulp Fiction, is the most important performance of John Travolta’s career. Released in 1981 & directed by Brian De Palma, this film helped re-establish Travolta’s career after a great ‘70s run & eventually caught the eye of Quentin Tarantino. This film is excellent.
I'll probably get clobbered for this, but here goes: Please, can everyone, right or left, MAGA or anti-MAGA, Republican or Democrat, stop catastrophizing and trying to get everyone on your side worked up into a rage? It's not Flight 93. We're not on the verge of fascism. We do not need to take desperate measures. Our fellow citizens with whom we disagree are not devils incarnate or personifications of evil. We need to argue with our political adversaries--passionately perhaps--but with respect for their humanity and dignity. We don't need to destroy them. That mustn't be our aim. We all say we believe in democracy. Good! But democracy is all about persuading, giving reasons, engaging one another as fellow citizens, despite our disagreements. Let's rebuild civic friendship. We can do this. (Thank you for your attention to this matter.)
@TheStingisBack Midnight Run is one of the greatest movies ever made ….every character changes by the end …..brilliant writing, brilliant directing, brilliant acting….its a sleeper …doesn’t get mentioned enough on how great it is
What’s impressive about this is that the education system didn’t just eliminate virtually all conservative thought as it moved toward left wing extremism, they got rid of almost anyone who was in the middle too. Anyone who doesn’t fully comply with the groupthink isn’t welcome.
One of my favorite things about Spring/Summer in Philly is seeing people who set up TV/projectors to watch the Phillies outdoors. I saw 4 different set ups last night, all had multiple houses outside hanging out watching the game. Baseball rocks, Philly is the best
There is no doubt in my mind that the best writings of any U.S. President are Grant's memoirs, and his recollections of Lee's surrender in Appomattox---161 year ago this today---are perhaps the best parts of those memoirs.
