One of the men of T1 Patrol (pic) was l/cpl Jack Davis. He wrote of Jan 12: "We encountered heavy going & sand dunes of varying sizes...steep slopes, sunken valleys & numerous cairns line the border. However we crossed & were the first of the 8th Army to cross into Tunisia."

A significant day in the history of WW2 special forces.
On January 12 1943 the Long Range Desert Group became the first members of the Eighth Army to cross the Libyan border into Tunisia.
They were Kiwis, led by Nick Wilder (pic)
Their task was to find a route for Montgomery.
