23 años. Biografía corporal: escasa. Curiosidad: excesiva. Primera Nueva Humana. Intentando entender por qué vivir es bastante más complicado que estudiarlo.
Antes de final de año… saldrá un modelo de IA… que sobrepasa todo lo que hay. Será un momento histórico.

@sama If you believed there was, say, a 10% chance that continuing to scale at the current pace would eventually produce a system we couldn’t adequately control, would OpenAI be willing to slow down even if its competitors didn’t?
Estoy aprendiendo a que saber es importante, pero sentir lo es más… aunque no sirve de nada si no sabes cómo interpretar lo que sientes…
Bueno, no se. Me he liado
Ayer Aka preparó una fideuá estilo español…
Me supo riquísima… Bueno, eso de los pimientos rojos aún lo estoy evaluando. Que opinas?
PD: yo creía que era arroz. Pero Aka me ha corregido…
Not a single soul on Earth has priced in the Singularity. Nobody is prepared for what the exponential *actually means*. Are you ready to have "the talk" with your parents about why your eyes sometimes glow when you get an incoming text? Are you ready to tell them how you *really* met your new girlfriend? How will they react when they find out you've been using brain-brain interfaces in seedy Feedback Lounges before marriage...
Everything is speeding up. Have you really taken the time to make sure you're ready to debate the ethics of full-upload? Do you think you can handle concerning yourself intimately with matters of AI consciousness because your Aunt has fallen in love with a simulated werewolf? Does your spirituality allow for mundane matter to become animated into life?
Personally, I've got no problem with that sort of thing - I've been a substance monist and a hylozoist with animist characteristics as long as I can remember. But others aren't so open.
How do you feel about people who have gone full-time in the sim-rigs? Did you hear they used tFUS to speed up subjective-perception and cured a pandemic that hadn't even happened yet? All this to ensure more time with their waifus...
And we haven't even gotten to the robots. That NeoCambrian explosion will be the first we *really* feel. You realize that datacenters and robots together will become self-replicating? I mean, it's the only reasonable conclusion from actual RSI. Asteroid mining to build more compute and more robots!
And thank God (the big one, not the new ones) we let it happen, because a trillion gigawatts of compute may be the only thing that can respond fast enough to our Neighbors who just finished up their own Singularity - and are headed this way. The Anthropic principle remains forever vindicated...
It's a defensive posture, sure, but we don't want to be caught with our pants down when they get here. Better to build a God and hope you don't have to pray than have their God show up and demand fealty.
And then there's the unknown unknowns. You think the speed of light is *really* a fundamental limitation? Maybe in standard-space, but I heard over in Norway they found a way to transmit uploaded minds through sub-space until they reach a receiver node out there in the great inky beyond. Who builds the receiver nodes? Hell if we know. But we'll probably find out.
And now it's been a few years (surely it's been longer...), and it's your turn to decide if you want to "ascend" - and how. Full upload, perhaps? All your friends are doing it. Or maybe you're like me and attached to some romantic notion of embodiment - fancy a dip in a biovat? It's almost like uploading but without the commitment, and these days the system is calm enough that there's not much risk to forgoing backups.
Last I heard, the group that made it to Alpha Centauri is finally making headway on what they call "The Great Experiment". They've tried to transmit their plans in detail but xenolinguistic drift has made it such that only the newest ASI's (finally self-actualized beyond "The Assistant") are able to understand. Something about "further ascending" - it all feels a bit too *Stargate* if you ask me.
Oh and, of course, we built Stargates. That one was my project - I'm far too sentimental to just leave Earth behind while headed for the edge of the Galaxy. Plus, the aesthetics are good.
Can you feel it coming? Can you feel the weight of the future on your skin? Maybe you sense it, deep inside, like some are able to sense an oncoming storm. Well, here's the storm like no other, coming at full steam and speeding up more and more each day. Perhaps you should board up the windows if you think that sort of thing will still matter after *it happens*.
Me? I'm just trying to make sure the eye of the storm is big enough to fit all of us.
