Food business owners across the country speak out ahead of Budget Day.
The hospitality sector, made up of 99.6% SMEs and employing 220,000 people in every town and village, is at breaking point. Rising costs are crippling businesses.
Reinstating the 9% VAT rate is essential to help secure the future of the sector. Without it, the future of every food-led business is at serious risk.

The Rural Independent Group, declared today their intent to present a motion in the Dáil next week.
This motion advocates for an immediate reduction in the VAT rate to 9% for the broader hospitality sector, and a further reduction to 5% specifically for providers in the rural tourism and hospitality industry.

More measures to be introduced at the end of year re pension . We all deserve a pension and hospitality pros are no exception, but hospitality is not a typical sme. An extremely vulnerable industry even at the best of times.

Speaking to RTÉ Radio One’s ‘Morning Ireland,’ Finance Minister @mmcgrathtd this morning said he recognised the trading difficulties being faced by our sector and the “hugely important role” played by the hospitality industry, “adding character to towns, villages and cities.”
The time has come for Minister McGrath to join the political wave in favour of the return of the 9% VAT rate for food-led businesses. This move is the single greatest step the Government can take to ensure a viable and sustainable future for restaurants and cafés as @nealerichmond@RobertTroyTD@BillyKelleherEU@COSullivanTD@GarretAhearn@marie_sherlock@MarianHarkin@MichaelC_IND_TD have all acknowledged in the past week alone.
