The Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR), Kochi, in association with the Center for Social and Policy Research at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), convened a stakeholder consultation on shared mobility and Intermediate Public Transport (IPT) in Karnataka on 6 August 2026, as part of its project "Reforms to Promote Shared Mobility for Economic Empowerment and Growth in Rural India."

CPPR presented its study findings on how the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Karnataka's Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, leave shared services such as share-autos and mini-buses without a legal category and outlined reform options achievable within existing law.

Local stakeholders, including research institutions, operator unions, transport enthusiasts, and students, then shared their observations, affirming that the issue was pressing and required urgent policy action.

CPPR’s Chaithra Navada and Aishwarya participated in the workshop “Building Transport Resilience for a Resilient Kerala,” organised by TU Delft, IIT Palakkad and KSCSTE-NATPAC in Kochi.

The workshop brought together researchers and practitioners to discuss how Kerala’s transport systems can better anticipate, withstand and recover from floods and other climate-related disruptions—strengthening the resilience of the state’s mobility infrastructure.

The Sixteenth Finance Commission of India has proposed a major boost for urban local governments, increasing allocations by 230% compared to the previous commission. With greater emphasis on untied grants, rural–urban transition, and improved financial autonomy for cities, the recommendations could significantly shape India’s urban governance landscape for 2026–2031.
