VIDEO | Flamboyant Indian opener Abhishek Sharma’s impact at the top is comparable to Chris Gayle in his prime, says former Sri Lanka cricketer Chamara Kapugedera, who believes the left-hander has been central to India’s T20 success over the past year.
“India’s success over the last one year has largely depended on Abhishek Sharma. The way he has batted during this period has been phenomenal. I haven’t seen anyone do that except Chris Gayle when we were starting out. I don’t think anyone can replace Abhishek Sharma in the Indian team at the moment,” he said.

Rafa, one post is not enough to express the respect I have for you and what you have done for our sport. You have inspired millions of children to start playing tennis and I think that’s probably greatest achievement anyone can wish for. Your tenacity, dedication, fighting spirit is going to be taught for decades. Your legacy will live forever. Only you know what you had to endure to become icon of tennis and sport in general.
@RafaelNadal inspired me to watch and follow tennis when you beat Roger in the final to win 2008 Wimbledon. Thank you raffa You have always been an inspiration to many around the world, Enjoy the hard earned retirement GOAT.
We will miss watching you play 😞.
In my journey through politics, I’ve always embraced challenges, believing that true leadership often means taking risks for the greater good. When our nation faced its darkest moments, I made difficult decisions that I felt were necessary to steer us toward recovery. I have no regrets about those choices, even in the face of defeat.
Ranil Wickremesinghe may not have won but he played the most valuable role in saving our nation from bankruptcy. I stand proud of the part I played in that process to support him and believe that sometimes the most significant victories aren’t marked by success at the polls but by the resilience and policy we showed within our community at its darkest times.
Thank you for your support and faith during the most challenging moments we faced as a country. As I understand the will of the people, I fully respect the majority decision and bow my head in acknowledgment. Congratulations new President @anuradisanayake As I reflect on my journey, there’s a strong possibility I’ll be making a decision to reassess my role in active politics in the future.
Each of them have their own stories, but the beauty of all those stories is that they together constructed one of the most beautiful stories in the history books of our Cricket.
Team work make dreams work. Our pack of smiling wolves, the unsung heroes of the Oval miracle!!
