TVS Motor Company will launch its iQube electric scooter in Kenya on August 8, marking the Indian manufacturer’s first entry into Africa’s electric two-wheeler market.
The scooter will be sold in two variants offering real-world ranges of 75 km and 115 km per charge, with a top speed of up to 82 km/h.
TVS says users could save about KSh 47,000 annually in energy and maintenance costs compared with a 125cc petrol scooter, with Car & General $CGEN handling sales and after-sales support.
Stanbic Bank (@StanbicKE) stunned the market with a 56.85% slash in interim dividend for HY2026 to Kes 1.64/share (Kes 648.33 Million payout) amidst flat net earnings at Kes 6.61 billion for HY2026.
When I sat down with the bank's CFO, @Musaus, I asked him about this drastic dividend reduction.
He makes the following points:
· The bank is engaging the capital retention gear in anticipation of lumpy ticket undertakings expected to roll in starting Q3 2026
· The bank is expecting the lumpy ticket undertakings to come from infrastructure, manufacturing, energy & agribusiness
· The August 2027 election is a key factor in the dividend decision & the bank is positioning for bumper business between Q3 2026 & Q1 2027
· The bank paid a record dividend (65.0% payout) in for the 2025 year of income upon which shareholders gave management a growth mandate
We also spoke about the bank's balance sheet growth & margins compression (see quoted tweet)
