तमिलनाडु भाजपा के पूर्व प्रदेश अध्यक्ष के. अन्नामलाई ने पार्टी नेतृत्व से मतभेदों के चलते अपना इस्तीफ़ा सौंप दिया है. दिल्ली में भाजपा के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष नितिन नवीन से मुलाकात के बाद उन्होंने अपना इस्तीफ़ा सौंपा.

बताया जा रहा है कि AIADMK के साथ गठबंधन और सीट बंटवारे को लेकर उनकी पार्टी के केंद्रीय नेतृत्व से अनबन चल रही थी.

2024 के लोकसभा चुनाव में भाजपा ने के. अन्नामलाई को कोयंबटूर से उम्मीदवार बनाया था. उन्होंने वहीं से चुनाव लड़ा, लेकिन हार गए. हालिया तमिलनाडु विधानसभा चुनाव में अन्नामलाई ने चुनाव न लड़ने का फैसला किया था.

केंद्र सरकार की CBSE त्रि-भाषा नीति की भी उन्होंने खुलकर आलोचना की थी.

रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक, वह भाजपा से नाता तोड़कर तमिलनाडु में एक नई राजनीतिक पार्टी बनाने पर विचार कर रहे हैं. हालांकि, पार्टी या अन्नामलाई की ओर से अभी तक कोई आधिकारिक घोषणा नहीं की गई है.
