🚨 If AI disrupts India’s IT sector, Indian real estate could suffer more than the stock market.
And most property investors aren’t prepared for this.
For years, India’s real estate boom has been driven by high-paying IT jobs. Professionals in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Gurugram and Noida bought expensive apartments, took 20–30-year home loans and pushed housing demand higher.
But what happens if AI starts replacing jobs, reducing hiring and putting pressure on salaries?
Here’s what could happen 👇
📉 1. Fewer jobs = Fewer homebuyers
An IT professional worried about job security is less likely to buy a ₹1.5 crore apartment. They may postpone the purchase or continue renting.
🏦 2. EMIs won’t stop after layoffs
People with massive home loans still need to pay their EMIs, even if they lose their jobs. Financial stress could force some to sell their properties.
🏢 3. Commercial real estate could suffer
If companies need fewer employees and less office space, commercial property demand and rental yields could come under pressure.
📊 4. Real estate corrections are slower
The stock market can crash in days. Real estate can take years to correct because sellers resist lowering prices, even when actual demand weakens.
My biggest concern isn’t that AI will suddenly crash Indian real estate. It’s that AI could weaken the salary growth supporting today’s property valuations.
Real estate isn’t just about location anymore. It’s also about who will afford these properties in the future.
👉 If AI fundamentally changes India’s IT job market, who will buy the millions of expensive apartments being built for tomorrow’s high-income professionals?
Agree or disagree?
