Mekedatu project submerges 5,500 hectares of dense forests, consumes ₹9,000Cr capex to facilitate water supply to TN . What we get is just 4.5TMC for Bengaluru drinking water and 400MW hydro-power. This has poor ROI & a big negative for the ecology. GoK should alternatively go for rejuvenation of the lakes, massive roof water/rain water harvesting and recycling of waste water as suggested by IISc. Its link is provided here.

We have the example of Channapattana taluque for rain water harvesting and filling of lakes. These measures have helped the farmers to grow a crop even in a drought year as per my knowledge.
