Interesting article in today's @MailOnline by Cameron Roy about Meghan Markle's July 2017 @VanityFair cover story. I covered this in my 2020 book Meghan & Harry: The Real Story, so it's intriguing to see how even the Mail now discerns her behind-the-scenes machinations. The gist is simple. She got the story placed to jerk Harry's chain in the direction of the altar, played the race card and a host of other tricks with which the public is now familiar but wasn't then aware of. Having been 'advised' by the palace NOT to speak about Harry, she bleated on and on about how wild she was about him, then, when the magazine used that theme as its cover strapline, not only accused them of racism, but went ballistic with the PR people, who had simply ensured that she got what she wanted and was accurately quoted. One of the first proofs of how devious, manipulative, and calculating she is. At least she didn't call for their heads to roll, the way she did with @piersmorgan and @danwootton. If ever there was the living embodiment of a salutary lesson of what NOT to be, it's Meghan Markle, a creature who is beyond belief. Pity Sophocles or Shakespeare aren't around to do her justice.

Ye Gads. Meghan Markle goes from depth to depth. Her PR people (whom I gather too frequently sound suspiciously like her) are at it again. Seeking publicity by digging deeper into the bottom of the barrel, she informs us, as if it were genuine news, that she has a new best friend. Her hairdresser. I won't be stupid enough to give her the oxygen of publicity by naming her. Suffice it to say, a celebrity - for that is what Meghan Markle is: she is a mere celebrity, and a publicity-hungry D Lister at that - who has to resort to becoming BFFs with someone who provides her a service, is unintentionally announcing to the world that people in her peer group avoid her like the plague. To anyone who has been listening to @danwootton on his superbly entertaining and informative Dan Wootton Outspoken show, this will latest development will come as no surprise. She and her SS are really superb at giving us lessons in perfecting the art of failure as they aspire to the heights but head towards the depths.

We certainly live in interesting times. President-elect @realDonaldTrump has trounced Kamala Harris following a host of missteps by British politicians. Our Prime Minister, well known for his ability to bend the rules of acceptable behaviour when it comes to encouraging the judiciary to send to prison those whose political opinions differ from his, not to mention clearing out the prisons of violent and practiced criminals to make space for those who were protesting against the direction in which their country is heading, condoned his ruling party sending some 100 political activists to the United States swing states to assist Kamala Harris. To add insult to injury, William Hague, the former leader of the Conservative Party and Conservative Leader of the House of Commons, waded in recommending that the American electorate vote for Kamala Harris. To further complicate matters, belatedly Boris Johnson, ever hopeful of emulating Lazarus, reared his unkempt head above the parapet and offered his support to the victorious @realDonaldTrump , plainly hoping that if he gets on the new president's good side, he will be able to knock newly-elected Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch off her perch and head up the party once more. Does Boris, that weak, silly, puerile but highly educated and undoubtedly intelligent and equally lacking in character buffoon, whom I had to sue in 2005 when he was the editor of The Spectator, simply because he was arrogant enough to think he could muck me around, think that he can worm and weasel his way back into favour? Surely he is aware that @Nigel_Farage, who has been a friend and supporter of Trump for years, in good times and in bad, is the one British politician who is ideally placed to be the centrist who will most enjoy Trump's favour. The next four years are going to be fascinating as we see this Government try to retrieve its credibility having interfered so ineffectually in the US elections, while the pro-Democrat Conservatives continue to flounder the way the Liberal Party did a hundred years ago, and @Nigel_Farage, the one politician who has been steafdast not only in his support of Trump but his political positions, is positioned to take over the mantle of conservatism which has been so recklessly squandered by the last Conservative Government, its ambitious and irresponsible operatives and politicians, and its Labour-light non-conservatism.
