ChangChill’s Journey
We have come a long way! We used to offer elephant riding, then elephant bathing and feeding, and now, our current observation-only program. This transition has shown us, and our visitors, the beauty of elephants simply being elephants.

Mother-Daughter Duo
Mae Gohgae and Mayura are inseparable, and seeing them wander between the forest together makes us feel proud of the life we’re offering to this mother and her daughter. You can meet them, and the other members of the herd, on a full day program at ChangChill
The sixth sense of elephants
Elephants may be able to detect a thunderstorm from 280km away, and will head towards it, looking for water. In 2004, elephants appeared to head for higher ground before the Asian tsunami struck.

Elephants can recognise themselves in mirrors
an Asian elephant called Happy repeatedly touched an ‘X’ painted on her forehead while looking in the mirror, Most animals will assume that a reflection is another animal, and look for it behind the mirror.

The oldest known elephant in the world!
The oldest known elephant in the world lived for 86 years (1917 – 2003). The average lifespan of an elephant is from 50 to 70 years, but they will live longer if provided with suitable diet and optimal living conditions.

Elephant skin is thick in some spots, but thin enough to feel a mosquito landing on it in other spots. Also, so they keep applying a thick coating of mud, and diving into the river for a cool, refreshing swim.

An Elephant’s Best Friend
Being a mahout is traditionally a very spiritual role in Thai culture and history. A mahout devotes their life to an elephant, developing a deep bond and form of communication over many years of spending each day together.

Giant Exercise
Elephants are the largest land mammals on the planet, and they need lots of exercise to keep them healthy. At ChangChill we’re constantly looking to expand our property to give the elephants more space for walking and grazing.
