Let me clarify: Zoro & Usopp are purely combat-focused. Luffy says he's only good at beating threats to friends.

Sanji is a chef first, fighter second. He values his arms over escaping Germa. He bakes Big Mom a cake

That said, if he gets it, he gets it & I'll humbly accept it

Making up a scenario where THEE BLACK LEG SANJI gives up on fighting bc "he prefers cooking" and rewriting him as a non combatant as if he didn't prepare to die to elevate his captain to new heights so many times.. when the inevitable happens i will come back to laugh at you

@hisashimitsuis @andreav1394 I didn't mention the wings because I wanted to focus on the Loyal Retainer archetype. Sanji is a more dynamic character who tends to go beyond that mold.

Would making a thread exclusively about how Nami drives Luffy's journey be an insult to Sanji? To me, it's the same thing

1. Every Conqueror we know focuses on combat or leadership — no cooks, navigators, scholars

2. Conquerors don't have discovery-based dreams. They wanna make their mark, protect people, or be free

3. Sanji prides himself on feeding others. He'd give up fighting before his hands

@ChampDigimon @andreav1394 Nah, I'm not insecure about powerscaling. I just see Conqueror's as a clear sign of a character’s "why."

WB was the strongest to protect his family's freedom, just like Luffy is becoming now. They want freedom for their family, so they lead & specialize in combat to ensure it

You're right about Shanks, but his core ethos is "nobody's allowed to harm my friends". I think he’d still protect his friends’ freedom like WB & Luffy

I see what you're saying. To me, Sanji, who drives major plot changes, is way more dynamic than Zoro

His loyalty matches Zoro's, but he puts duty above his own wants. That's why WCI hits so hard, and why the story never lets him go through with it

It's interesting you see Zoro taking Luffy’s pain as giving Luffy “credit” for Zoro's choices.

To me, showing they share values helps both characters & readers understand them both.

Writers often use parallels to emphasize important themes.

@LaGrosseMarmite @KingofHell1B I haven't seen any panels of characters clocking Gaban as a Conqueror's user, just Gaban saying you need Conqueror's to kill an immortal (which he didn't do).

like I said, I'm open to him having it. he either does, or he doesn't. we'll see what Oda cooks

@krqstair2 Oden, a Wano daimyo, left once duty started cramping his freedom. He changed only after starting a family. Knowing poneglyphs was a Kozuki duty, not a passion.

I'm open to Gaban having it, but will wait for 1) explicit confirmation via dialogue and 2) more info on his motives

Ace died chasing a life with zero regrets.

Sanji's priorities differ greatly from Oden & Ace

It's a beautiful story, and I think him turning into a Conqueror would undercut that thematically

Many die violently chasing zero regrets, leaving behind grieving family (WB included)

Sanji's sense of duty puts others before his wants. That's why WCI is so crushing

His sacrifices are tragic self-denial, not self-fulfillment, making his arc an inversion of the Conquerors we've seen.

@El_gat0oo Genuinely, I think it's interesting how many assume Gaban has it, even though no one's actually clocked him as using it

I'm open to the idea, btw, but would still consider Gaban the exception rather than the rule.

Every narrative trio Luffy's in follows this pattern so far.

@OGOllympusGames Gold Roger was all about being a captain and fighter, aiming to shake up the world — he told Rayleigh he wanted to "turn the world upside down."

Conquering the Grand Line was clearly his way of doing that

Makes sense. Luffy and Zoro's designs reflect it. Red and green are opposite on the color wheel — green is cool, red is warm — so they complement each other and really pop on the page when they're standing together

@chansenika if i remember correctly, zoro was always meant to be the "cool shounen protagonist" in contrast to luffy's unconventional goofiness for the readers
