A major issue with positioning charity as a solution is that it depoliticizes poverty and food insecurity and reinforces a flow of accountability to those that give to charity and not those that receive. Charity can't end hunger and poverty today, but our gov'ts certainly could.
Food insecurity was a crisis prior to the pandemic.
This announcement is like giving $20 to every food insecure person. Keep the $20 and instead introduce basic income & pharmacare + build affordable housing and ensure clean drinking water for all.

A great convo on @bctoday regarding childcare. For me, access to affordable childcare is the difference between staying home or entering the labor force. I would have to stay home if it wasn’t for the @bcndp implementing the subsidy program which was improved during their gov.

The Libs promised electoral reform, nation 2 nation relationships, pharamacare and to plant 2 billion trees. Where is electoral reform? Where is the action plan on #MMIWG? Where are the damn trees? FYI WE isn’t available to plant trees. #credibilityissue#ThroneSpeech2020
