Someday in this lifetime, I hope to retire to a 100-acre ranch, far away from the hustle and bustle of any city. Ideally in Laikipia, near a body of water and hills. Solar power, grow my own food, and fish. Drive to Nanyuki in my Ford Ranger (> 1 hours' drive) to buy provisions once a month. Drink whiskey from the bottle, listen to country music beside a bonfire, under the starry night sky. It would be happily ever after.

I am devastated by the allegations of cruelty and brutality that @MukomaWaNgugi has leveled against his father @NgugiWaThiongo_ . My soul weeps for Nyambura, his late mother. In the twilight of his life, the greatest African novelist will never be viewed the same ever again. His chances of ever being @NobelPrize laureate have vanished. Racists will seize on the allegations to reinforce their false narratives about Black men as brutal savages. Yet the allegations don’t square up with Ngugi, the pre-eminent revolutionary writer and thinker. I unreservedly condemn gender-based violence. That said, Ngugi’s liberatory works are written in the sands of time and can never be erased. It couldn’t have been easy for Mukoma to write what he did, and I am sure he will endure antipathy but also be bathed in empathy. But most of all, my most emotive thoughts are with the late heroic, stoic, and valiant Nyambura. Let’s all learn profound lessons from this tragic story.
