I do wish people understood that the prose is everything. There is no story “beneath” the prose. Cartesian dualism does not exist for books. There is no distinct soul of a book that can be separated from the body its prose. The experience of reading the language IS the novel.

I have to be 100% honest, I don’t think a young woman feeling regret about a consensual experience and crying rape has ever happened. I think the framing is used to excuse the fact that coercive rape exists and is more difficult to grapple with than violent stranger rape
