We often forget, grassroots football isn’t just about producing pros, that's the job of academies and the pro clubs. It’s about giving kids memories, friendships, and confidence that last a lifetime. The game might end one day, but what it gives them never will. ⚽💛
@Teamgrassroots_ what is the point of kids football in winter? 23 Sundays to play footy on since the start of our season and we’ve managed 9 league games and 1 cup game. Is it not time to swap to April/May to September?
As a grassroots coach of a development team its not always an easy ride. I'm not a coach who wants to win at all costs, and I like to give all a fair chance. If you're a coach of a kids football team and you are lucky enough to have players who are all at a good level, it can make it a little simpler at times. I'm not daft, I understand that the game is naturally competitive and every player goes out there to win in my experience.
But doing your best with the players you've got, developing them and giving them quality time on the pitch with a development team makes it a little harder and challenging.
I try my best to get the best result while juggling the pressure of keeping all happy and making sure everyone gets something from the game.
So for me today was one of the days where it makes it all worth while. We give our time for free because every so often the buzz you get when your team do something that you've worked on goes well. Today my U13s surprised me and I've been buzzing all day because of it. And that's why I do it, at times it can be frustrating and honestly I have self doubts, and reflect on my positions all the time, but every so often something happens which gives you a glowing feeling of being proud. Proud of my players, proud of the team and yes proud of myself.
To all other grassroots coaches out there doing the same job, well done keep it up you are amazing.

Unless you’re the coach because you’ll have to do both …. on your own….. with your son in the car waiting to go home ……who also watched you put them up 😂🤦🏼♂️
These trial events, do me a favour, the scouting system at any decent professional club is sophisticated enough to find players.
Got lads in Sondico run faster boots paying £150 so a window cleaner can tell you ‘no.’
Are you lot ok?
It costs £0.00 to ask a grassroots volunteer if they need a hand, to put up a net, to collect in the cones at the end of a session, to collect the subs, taking one small job away helps so much, they’ll most likely say no but the offer will mean the world to them. Just saying..
This could be controversial opinion but do you think that kids football,so all grassroots leagues should be changed from the normal season to march-October! I understand with school holidays etc this might be tough but this could be better for their development @Teamgrassroots_
That all kids in u5,6,7,8,9,10’s should all get the same amount of game time in their team. I hear you can’t play the ‘weaker’ kids the same amount of time as the ‘stronger’ kids literally every week. And yes I do want to win matches I just won’t do it at all costs.
FROM A COACH TO THEIR CHILD.
Dear son / daughter,
I am sorry that you have to share me,
That my time isn't focused on you,
I am sorry you are hanging around after,
Still waiting when the matches are through.
I know everyone else has gone home now,
I know that you are standing right there,
I know you were here extra early,
Believe me when I tell you I care.
Listen......
I see all the tricks you pull off in the game,
I see how you move,
Hearing me calling your name,
You look at me smiling waiting to hear the big cheer,
But you know how i am careful,
For the word "favoritism" will appear.
When watching the team and doing my best,
I see how you eagerly,
Wish you were just like the rest,
Able to have me all to yourself,
There to support YOU and nobody else.
You see all my worries and stresses alone,
You see me and hear me when Iam planning at home,
We never can cancel,
Or have a random week off,
When you want a sudden change of plans,
The coaching it can never stop.
You sacrifice a lot, many others never see,
Being the coaches son or daughter,
Is not all its cut out to be,
You don't really get privileges,
If anything you get much less,
Much more pressure is on you,
To consistently be trying your best.
It's not always easy being a coaches son or daughter,
It's not really all about them getting more,
They sacrifice a lot, and share a bond that they have,
In a game that they love and adore.
E.T.W.
