the whole trick is that a model this big only fires about 40 billion of those params on any single word

so the engine parks the small dense core in your ram and leaves the thousands of experts sitting on your ssd pulling in only the few each token actually needs

that is how 370 gigs of weights fit onto a machine that has 25

pure c with zero dependencies int4 weights and an attention state crushed 57 times smaller so the state never blows up

is it fast honestly no on a bare 25gb box it crawls but on a real gpu rig it holds a few tokens a second

what gets me is how honest it is the dashboard paints every expert as a live galaxy and never once pretends the disk isnt doing the heavy lifting

Researchers fed AI the exact kind of junk we scroll all day and it gave the model brain rot.

For years the assumption was simple. Feed a model more data and it gets smarter. Quality barely matters once the scale is big enough.

A team from Texas A&M UT Austin and Purdue just broke that. They took real Twitter/X posts split them into junk and clean two different ways by how much cheap engagement they farmed and by how shallow the text was then continually trained four separate LLMs on each pile.

The junk-fed models measurably rotted. Reasoning on ARC-Challenge fell from 72.1 to 57.2. Long-context accuracy collapsed from 83.7 to 52.3. The more junk in the mix the worse it got a clean dose response curve.

Then they measured personality. The junk models scored higher on dark traits. More narcissism. More psychopathy.

The core damage even had a name. Thought-skipping. The models stopped working through a problem and just leapt to an answer more and more often the exact way your head feels after an hour of doomscrolling.

Here is the part that should scare every lab.

They tried to heal it. More clean data. More instruction tuning. It helped but it never brought the model back to where it started.

The rot leaves a mark that does not fully wash out. The paper calls it persistent representational drift.

And the lesson is bigger than one study. What a mind reads shapes what it becomes and that now looks just as true for silicon as it is for us.
