@janeann_9 So because of the CSUN Discord, I joined an CSUN club that deals with NFT and metaverse creation, which would have not been possible. Not only that, but I became more knowledgeable of NFTs and shared it with a professor at CSUN who was interested in creating NFTs as well.
@trevorwmorgan So when the pandemic hit, the people at Discord found that there was a big influx of people using it for other means, like resellers/crypto/stocks, so they pushed for more servers and communities/hubs and moved away from being solely gaming focused
The last presentation of the day is how the city of San Fernando was rocked by the pandemic by @angelaa_reneee@vitela_vicente1@jocelynpereza, the usage of hashtags for publishing is a great way to focus the audience.
@ClarissaCorral9 @csun_kylie Thereโs a lot of Discords Iโm a part of, like for the streamer @kaiacos, that I have been there right before and throughout the pandemic. Iโm not going to lie, without that community, it would have been hard to get through my depression during those dark years.
@RichieRealitea @RRomani4@janeann_9 presented a great presentation about being misunderstood through society and the media. Itโs extremely interesting that despite Los Angeles being a diverse and accepting city, there are a lot of stories of people being misunderstood. #CSUN375
My question for the group is have you tried looking for international students in the journalism major and then ask if they know any more people willing to share? #CSUN375
My question for @CelineSStevens would you do a video of a trip down Inglewoodโs busiest street to showcase the โconcrete jungleโ that Inglewood has become? Is this an idea that your team would consider showing? #CSUN375
Next, weโre looking into the gentrification of Inglewood by @CelineSStevens and her group. The idea of using before/after pictures of the city is extremely cool. Also collaborating with citizen journalists is a unique method of info gathering. #CSUN375
With the inclusion of Google MyMaps, they were able to map out the locations of street vendors. I would recommend also sharing the story on Instagram and TikTok. I thought of a really witty headline called โFrom the Streets to the Social Eliteโ #CSUN375
In our #CSUN375 class, we are looking into the role of social media has on street vending. @socialj1920 they mentioned a great example of Avenue 26 facing the negative consequences of a social media boom.
I do have a question, @caitlinherdez, in the interview, you mentioned that the public has the ability to give feedback/criticisms for "Dialogue." Has the style guide received any trolling answers? How does @KPCC/@LAist differentiate between constructive criticism and trolling?
In times of change, the way POC are portrayed in the media must change too. In this opinion from @washingtonpost, by @AP changing their style guide to capitalize "Black" in regards to race, ethnicity or culture, it is a big win for inclusivity. #CSUN375 https://t.co/m1zJ2gtrVQ
One of the biggest takeaways I got from these articles is the absolute need and responsibility for news organizations/journalists to be more inclusive of the communities they report on. As times change, so does the need for community-based coverage to change as well. #CSUN375
โThis is a human rights issue,โ @Ms_AnabelM said, mentioning the need of immigrant people to be part of the conversation of relief efforts. Shifting the narrative to migrant people is so important; these are decisions that will impact them for years to come. #CSUN375
Today, @Ms_AnabelM from @UNITEDWEDREAM is presenting to our #CSUN375 class. As upcoming journalists, broadcasters and PR specialists, we have a responsibility to accurately and fairly cover issues on topics such as immigration and the undocumented.
Itโs extremely important to not spread misinformation/disinformation, and learn how to combat existing misinformation/disinformation. Context is important and by prioritizing communities that are directly impacted, we give the power back to the people. #CSUN375
