To the Americans:
I've travelled all over the world. I've familiarized myself with many places, and met many people. And I'm a Canadian, although I’m privileged to reside once again in the States.
And here's something I've noticed, and it’s a key element of America's continuing greatness:
You bloody Americans value success, and you believe in its existence.
This is something that doesn't really happen anywhere else in the world. Even in other free democracies—the United Kingdom; Finland, Sweden, and Norway; Australia, New Zealand and Canada; Germany, France, and the Netherlands (great countries all)—a counterproductive cynicism too often reigns.
Success is equated with exploitation.
Ambition is looked upon with contempt.
This happens sometimes in the United States too—particularly among the miserable progressives, who confuse their resentment, ingratitude and unearned skepticism with wisdom.
But in your great country, by and large, striving is admired and success celebrated.
This means that more people strive and succeed in the US than anywhere else. And it's increasingly obvious. You remain stunningly more innovative and productive than any people anywhere else on the planet.
And so I say, as all should who are fortunate enough to live in the western world, let alone America:
Thank God for the United States.
Thank God for the wisdom of its founders.
Thank God for its faith in the free market and in the natural rights of man.
Happy birthday, you damn Yankees and Southerners.
Long may your admirable country dominate the world.
Long may your freedom and hope provide an example to those suffering everywhere at the hands of their malevolent states.
May your two and a half centuries of unparallelled success be just the beginning.
Your country is the light of the world, and the city on the hill.
Thank God for the USA.
Happy 250th.
Dr. Jordan B. Peterson
Enough. Canada is now governed by left-wing judges from the East. Our elected representatives are an after-thought. It’s time to restore the Old Canada by winning independence for Alberta.
@SKORNorth@thorku Thor you are great and I love your analysis but you have a blind spot when it comes to McCarthy. He’s just not that good man. He tries but the skill is just not there and O’Connell can’t get it out of him. Kyler would be a monster upgrade.
Should the Province of Alberta cease to be part of Canada and become an independent state?

Imagine a nation where life actually gets better.
Where you keep more than half your income.
Where the next generation has a future.
Where rights and freedoms are respected.
Where schools teach, not indoctrinate.
Where firearm ownership is protected.
Where inflation isn’t eroding your standard of living.
Where investment flows in, not out.
Where your hard-earned money isn’t sent to provinces that sabotage your growth.
Where culture and heritage are celebrated, not shamed.
Where immigration is controlled and responsible.
Where owning a home is attainable.
Where progress feels real again.
All of this is possible only if Alberta ends its abusive relationship with a declining Canada and charts its own path as a free and independent nation.
Western society is crumbling fast. Left, right, liberal, conservative, republican, democrat, black, white, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, atheist, straight, gay, and the list goes on…
…they’ve got everyone fighting each other and dialogue has been thrown out of the window. The ability to listen and acknowledge good points made from those you may disagree with has completely gone. Both sides of each argument are being played like a fiddle to destroy each other instead of unite and today’s assassination of Charlie Kirk is a clear example of that in real time. The fallout from this will also be another example. Total chaos.
Charlie Kirk was shot and killed for standing up for free speech, a right enshrined in the First Amendment. For those who argue that "there’s no absolute right to free speech," his courage and his tragic death stands as a direct rebuke.
Kirk's killer obviously did not believe in the right to unfettered free expression. Let the opponents of unfettered free speech which is the foundation of a civilized and free society ponder this reality.
But let's face it, these folks would rather cower behind illiberal laws that restrict speech rather than fighting vigorously for free speech which is the bedrock of every civilized society, most notably Western civilization with it's Judeo-Christian heritage.
Agree with him or not, Kirk consistently defended and practiced unfettered expression, crisscrossing American campuses, once bastions of open debate, now shadows of that tradition, to engage in dialogue and dissent.
In the end, he made the ultimate sacrifice to uphold perhaps the most important of humanity’s cherished individual liberties: the right to free expression.
This is such a good point. If you actually watch Charlie’s events—as opposed to the fake summaries—they are one of the few places with open and honest dialogue between left and right. He would answer any question and talk to everyone.
Whether you agreed with him or not, Charlie Kirk is dead purely because some people didn't like what he had to say. That should outrage every single one of us.
By saying that Canada will recognize a Palestinian state two days before a major tariff/trade deadline, Prime Minister Carney is telling President Trump that:
1. Carney hates everything Trump stands for,
2. Carney is willing to put up the entire economy of Canada as collateral in his fight with Trump, and
3. Carney values the Muslim vote/funding/influence in Canada more than he values others.
This may end poorly.....
Canadians now pay more in taxes than they do on food, housing, and clothing - COMBINED.
You aren’t a citizen of Canada, you are slave to its bureaucracy.
Alberta independence is the only way out of this mess.
Alberta must leave Canada before we get dragged down with it. Carney is working hard to turn Canada into Venezuela.
