Cycling Bhatru says on Instagram, rather sarcastically:
“Why stop at 7,500? Let’s cut everything and build malls, stadiums, water parks… why do we need forests and water?”
hope the authorities look at all the available data before and careful environment assessment before considering this. #westernghats #charmadi
Charmadi Ghat. Another road widening project. Another 7,540 trees.
Anyone who has travelled through Charmadi knows how beautiful that stretch is. The road is wide enough for vehicles, but still narrow enough for forest life to move across it.
And this is also an elephant crossing and tiger corridor, where animals still move through their habitat.
We keep cutting into these hills, disturbing the landscape, and then every monsoon we see another landslide, another road disappear and sometimes innocent lives lost.
GSI has already recorded 45 landslides along this stretch. And yet here we are again.
We say 7,500 trees as if it is just a number. It is 7,500 little life-support systems for insects, birds, animals, the soil, the water for us.
Your trolley is helping fund an extinction crisis.
Palm oil is in countless everyday products, from Nutella and biscuits to chocolate, instant noodles, soap and cosmetics. Forests are cleared and deliberately burned to make way for plantations, destroying habitats and leaving wildlife with nowhere to go.
Orangutans • Sumatran elephants • Bornean pygmy elephants • Tigers • Sumatran rhinos • Sun bears • Gibbons • Proboscis monkeys • Pangolins • Hornbills • Clouded leopards • Malayan tapirs • Slow lorises • Leopard cats • Tarsiers • Flying squirrels • Civets • Frogs • Reptiles and insects to name but a few.
The IUCN says at least 193 threatened species are affected by palm oil production.
Every palm oil purchase has a body count. Read the ingredients. Stop the funding.
The 80s were never this easy to revisit. 😄
In the last 24–48 hours, millions of us have asked AI to take us back in time different clothes, different hair, younger faces… and, naturally, “one more version.”
Behind that harmless nostalgia are data centres consuming thousands of gallons of water for cooling. but the environmental cost of AI is very real.
AI is an incredible tool.
Perhaps it's about being a little more conscious of how we use it.

These are not just numbers.
They tell us something about the air we breathe, the water we drink, our forests, rivers, soil and ultimately our health.
The ecological crisis in India needs to be treated as an emergency — by the government, businesses and honestly, by all of us. 🌳🐝
Economic growth means nothing if environment that sustains us is being destroyed (2/2)
This number should make all of us stop and think.
If GDP falls, we worry.
If the rupee falls, we worry.
If our stock market falls, we worry.
If our sports ranking falls, we get upset.
But when our environmental ranking is 176, we somehow move on.(1/2)
There’s a Nepalese man on the news crying because he has lost his family in these terrible floods.
He says the floods were 10 times worse than even the worst floods they’ve ever seen.
I know people get irritated with people like me going on about climate change, but these are the stakes.
A lot of people are going to die, potentially millions, at worst billions.
I just can’t understand why the media and politicians cannot reflect what the scientists are telling us about the urgency of this moment.
Boycott all these products that contain Palm Oil that is responsible for logging millions of acres of world forests and destroying home of amazing wild life such as Orangutans and many more species
climate change is no longer a distant warning.
Spain is burning. France is burning. The climate crisis is rewriting the rules of the global economy.
Tomorrow's wealth won't just be GDP.
It will be forests that still stand.
Rivers that still flow.
Groundwater that still exists.
Air that is still breathable.
India must protect its natural assets while there is still time. Pics : agumbe, kudremukha
@worshipVK The guy is in mid twenties just out of 30 + days sheer exhaustion afte leading one of most historic protest seen in recent times. Many would shit in their pants with all that media attention. We should not scrutanize everything wht he speaks. Outcome is more important.
