i’ll say it a hundred times because some of you need to hear it a hundred times but the trick to liking yourself again is learning new skills and hobbies or returning to ones you had. it makes you so confident learning new shit all the time
The greatest red chair story of all time.
Kid from the west of Ireland tells Graham about the night their babysitter’s 13-year-old brother was left in charge.
Parents come home early to absolute carnage: curtains ripped down, smashed plates, paint everywhere, bloody nose, and the kid has clumps of hair missing
because he tried to cut it himself.
Mum looks at the teenage babysitter and says:
You’re in real trouble, Chris O’Dowd, when I tell your mother about this.
And Chris is just sitting there on the couch dying. Absolute cinema.
Also, I have some tips for everyone. Medyo mahaba ito but I hope it helps. As someone with 22TB (and more) of drives, categorized by year and era to the point na I have files from 12 years ago since I was a teenager, here are the things I’ve learned and stood by through the years:
1. Please huwag niyo directly gamitin yung HDD or SSD niyo out of the box if you’re planning to use it as your main/personal drive. Format it according to your system. Kung for Mac, I personally use APFS for SSDs and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) for HDDs. Kung for Windows, Windows lang talaga, NTFS. Only use ExFAT kung shared drive siya between two systems, like Mac and Windows. ExFAT is good for compatibility, pero personally, hindi ko siya ginagamit for my main working drives or drives na may files akong sobrang important because I prefer using the native filesystem of the system I’m working on.
2. I swear by this hard drive brand and model TO THE DEPTHS OF MY SOUL — Transcend 25M3 or 25H3. This was my first external HDD for college back in 2014, hanggang ngayon buhay pa siya. I just use it to store JPEGs now, but still over 90% health. ROI na ROI na siya (Transcend, baka naman!). Plus, mas matibay siya than most drives. Other brands nasisira agad with just one fall, this one? Jusko, kahit siguro balahura ka, it’ll survive you. It gets a bit hotter lang since it has its own built-in silicone case, so make sure na may proper airflow pa rin.
But guess which brand yung ayoko dahil isang bagsak, wasak? Initials: SG. But their bigger home drives are great! Yung mga 8TB and above!
3. If you’re a creative or someone who does photo, video editing, or any creative work, always try to separate your working drives when you can. Personally, I like separating my RAW/media drive from my cache, project, or output drives. Pwede yung SSD for RAW files and working files, then HDD for final outputs or archives. Of course, iba sa video since those are heavier, so kung kaya ng budget, separate SSDs for both. Treat your drives like people, so imagine, instead of making one drive do EVERYTHING at the same time, you delegate tasks to each one. Less traffic, less load.
4. Don’t ever let your drives, especially hard drives, run TOO HOT. Pet peeve ko ’to honestly yung mga gumagamit ng hard drives tapos hinahayaan lang na sobrang uminit, ate ko! You’re not helping the lifespan of your drive by cooking it. Drives getting warm during use is normal, especially during heavy transfers, but make sure they have proper ventilation and airflow. Di bale nang ikaw mainitan, basta ang electric fan, itapat sa hard drive! CHAROT. Same with SSDs, especially NVMe drives na pwedeng uminit during sustained workloads.
5. I used to recover failed drives back in college for fun to help fellow students and hanggang nagwo-work ako in corpo hanggang kahapon as freelancer ginagawa ko pa rin siya for free: if you accidentally reformat your drive or SD card, or accidentally delete files, DO NOT SHOOT or add more files to the drive. Eject properly and DO NOT TOUCH IT AT ALL. Try to have someone recover it, or learn how to use file recovery software to do so. The more you write new files onto it, the higher the chance na ma-overwrite yung files you’re trying to recover.
6. Eto, if you’re using an SD card as a photographer or videographer or kahit point-and-shoot for fun, iwasan niyo na mag-delete ng files using the camera itself. Hindi naman ibig sabihin nito na masisira agad yung SD card, but personally, I just avoid deleting individual files on-camera kung hindi kailangan. Always take the card out > dump it all sa computer > make sure nandun lahat ng files > reformat the card in the camera > shoot. Use proper SD cards with the right speed too.
Lastly, there are a lot more tips out there for drive maintenance pa, but I swear it really does help to properly store your files, or rather, your beloved memories and experiences.
I’m G to answer if may mga tanong! :)
since we're on the topic of accessibility
