No tengo dudas de que la ciudad d #LaPlata, capital de la principal provincia argentina, será en el futuro un caso de estudio. En 143 años de vida se produjo aquí una transformación paradójica, inaudita. La urbe que 1882 nació como una ciudad planificada, modelo del higienismo, unica en el mundo, con una traza elogiada en Europa, hoy se ha convertido en la capital del desorden urbano con la friolera de 435 los barrios irregulares. Pasamos de la planificacion integral a la desplanificación más absoluta y el desprecio por la historia y la identidad.

Cuando se trazó #LaPlata se pensó en un eje fundacional con grandes palacios rodeados x jardines y plazas para sobresalir la trama d edificios d mediana altura en la zona comercial/administrativa y casas bajas en los barrios. Eso fue en 1882. De ahí para acá nunca más nadie pensó nada.

Dear @JimCameron,

I am writing to you on behalf of the government of Jujuy to rectify any erroneous information that sectarian groups may have tried to instill in you.

We regret that you have been provided with false information, in bad faith and with a clear intention of political exploitation.

First and foremost, I want to clarify that Verónica Chavez, representative of the Santuario Tres Pozos community - whom you met in Buenos Aires - is a respected and heard voice (among many others), and it is important for you to know that there is no ongoing lithium project in that provincial territory, as the community opposes it. She owns two salt mining projects and has opposed the development of lithium in her community, so the government did not promote any lithium production project in that location.

In the specific case of lithium production in the Olaroz-Cauchari Basin, we have worked closely with the communities of Pueblo Atacama, Manantiales de Pastos Chicos, Huancar, Catua, Olaroz Chico, Paso de Jama, El Toro - Rosario de Susques, Valle de Piscuno - San Juan de Quillaques, Río Grande de Coranzulí, Pórtico de Los Andes - Susques, and Termas de Tuzgle de Puesto Sey.

Likewise, in Salinas Grandes, the process of prior informed consultation took place, in which the indigenous community of Lipán participated, to initiate exploration activities for a new lithium project, ensuring and guaranteeing the participation of that indigenous community.

Through dialogue, information, and consensus, the communities have given their consent to the environmental impact reports and the planning of lithium exploration and exploitation work in the territory.

We consider this an indispensable and non-negotiable condition for the development of any undertaking.

I must emphasize that the government of Jujuy is committed to guaranteeing the rights and participation of indigenous communities in mining projects.

Our province has the necessary governmental structure and institutions, such as the Ministry of Human Rights and Indigenous Peoples, as well as normative instruments to ensure the implementation of projects through free and informed consultations.

Additionally, we have implemented initiatives such as the Labor Insertion - Generation Process, which has allowed for the inclusion of local labor, and we have established a credit system for local suppliers.

We have also designed and implemented the Incentives Program to strengthen various aspects of community life, including education, training, university scholarships, internships, and support for community projects.

It is important to highlight that members and authorities of indigenous communities participate in monitoring activities, as established by provincial regulations, which provides them with a control tool in all stages of mining projects.

Furthermore, we have implemented the Provincial Program for the Promotion of Indigenous Peoples' Rights and Free, Prior, and Informed Consultation, with the aim of ensuring spaces for dialogue and democratic participation to strengthen institutional and organizational aspects of the communities.

The lithium projects in Jujuy are being developed in places where the communities, after a lengthy process of prior informed consultation, have given their consent.

Therefore, we regret that false information has been provided to you, and we lament that those who take extreme positions against lithium production generate this kind of confusion.

Lithium is a critical and essential mineral for decarbonizing the energy and transportation matrix. It is crucial for the ethical transition to renewable energies and electromobility and for protecting the planet, combating desertification, biodiversity loss, and other negative effects that climate change is causing worldwide.

Lithium is used in cell phone batteries, computers, various technological equipment, and for electric mobility. So, those who oppose lithium should reconsider the use of cell phones, computers, various technological devices, and electric cars.

It is not true that this mining development through evaporation -

which generates the least environmental impacts - has caused ecosystem alterations or biodiversity losses. Both the Mining Secretariat and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change participate in quarterly participatory monitoring together with the communities. There is no evidence of any environmental alteration that poses a threat to these territories. Among the monitored parameters are water quality, air, soil, salt crust, flora, and fauna, with all measurements carried out by state-of-the-art equipment in third-party laboratories, ensuring the objectivity of the results and avoiding conflicts of interest.

It is also untrue that there is a destruction of culture; the companies have been respectful of the cosmology and community practices, incorporating that ancestral cultural capital of the indigenous communities into their corporate culture.

In summary, dear James Cameron, the Government of Jujuy reaffirms its seriousness and commitment to territorial management, working responsibly and respectfully with indigenous communities and protecting the environment.

Furthermore, I want to clarify that your visit to our province was not an initiative of our government or mine. You were invited by a foundation, which took care of your arrival in Argentina and requested your visit to Jujuy because it is the province that is working the most in the fight against climate change in the country.

I deeply regret that politicized sectors have generated a distorted image of our government and our province, but I want to assure you that we are committed to promoting dialogue, participation, and respect for the collective rights of indigenous communities.

I take this opportunity to send you a warm greeting and reiterate that you will always be welcome in Jujuy. Your talent and dedication in the world of film arts have left an inspiring legacy, and it would be an honor to have you present in our beautiful province once again.
