Fun fact: In the week leading up to the release of @taylorswift13’s 1989, music industry publications predicted it would sell less than 1 million copies in its debut week questioning whether Swift abandoning country music and streaming would impact the album's sales.
However, Billboard closely monitored sales after the album's release and raised the first-week prediction to 1 million within 24 hours, and to 1.2 million within 48 hours. Ultimately, 1989 debuted with 1.287 million copies sold.
