Planting sweet peas might be the furthest thing from your mind right now in late July, at the height of summer. But if you have sweet peas in your garden right now, here's an interesting time-saving trick we discovered this year: if you let your sweet peas go to seed at the end of their growing season (contrary to a lot of very good gardening advice!), many of them just might end up sprouting next Spring, and give you your earliest ever crop of sweet peas. That's what happened to Charlotte in May when she got her sweet pea seeds ready to plant -- she discovered that, in the part of the garden where she had let her sweet peas go to seed at the end of last summer, the seeds had already started to sprout, which was a surprise in our area where winters can get down to -40!
Johanna did the opposite last summer -- cutting her sweet peas so regularly for bouquets for the house and for family and friends and then quickly removing the vines at the end of the season, so that the vines didn't go to seed and then drop that seed onto the soil. And this year she's had to plant (and replant several times, thanks to the tornado and two hail storms) her sweet peas, and is still waiting for flowers!
Check your stores for packages now and try out fall seading.

The Tip struck gold with this stunning male Golden-winged Warbler! Yesterday's large passage of 1500 Myrtle Warblers was the prerequisite to a rarity, as is often the case. Warbler season is truly upon us!
India now has 75% of world’s wild tigers, numbering around 3200.
It will reach it’s carrying capacity soon, until we are obsessed with numbers & make them pests in human dominated habitats.
