I had the immense pleasure of listening to Michael Lifshitz present his work on ‘tulpamamcy’ at this year’s Neurospirituality Symposium. If you haven’t heard of that word, you’ll want to. More below…

Lifshitz and team conducted a study on a group of tulpamancers’ brains as they completed tasks with varying levels of agency. What they found was lower activation in the pre-SMA motor area during tulpa possession, indicating a true lack of control when the tulpa was acting.

Many tulpamancers note a specific instance of when the practice switched from forced into realistic. This is the moment when the second stream of consciousness comes alive, and true conversations with the entity become possible.

Tulpamamcers curate another stream of consciousness within their minds. The consciousness question is already on the forefront of every scientist’s mind, but why couldn’t it be that the brain can run two semi-independent consciousnesses?
