Fungus pockets! Our review chapter on ambrosia beetle mycangia, the amazing organs these fungus farmers use to store and carry living spores of their fungal food, is just out (Open Access) at MIT Press. #fungi#symbiosis#ambrosiabeetles https://t.co/6jsFST7sRi
Our latest paper is out!: We tested a push-pull strategy using verbenone to repel (push) and ethanol to attract (pull) invasive ambrosia beetles in apple orchards. Results show verbenone alone can reduce beetle migration into orchards when populations are comparatively low but the pull is likely necessary for large populations-- the masterful @kelseytobin_ led this multi-state study which includes NY, PA, OH!

I’m on the market! 🎉
What do I do?
-I develop research questions and applied biotechnology to understand and disrupt insect symbioses.
-I coordinate international teams to tackle interdisciplinary global challenges.
-I train mycologists, entomologists and insect pathologists.
@lovettbr Can't believe it, man. Wish I knew what to do to help. If your students need space I've got some bench space until December, and I've got some -80 and incubator space if you need to save cultures. Will open what I can to them, just let me know.
What determines transfer of carbon from plants to mycorrhizal fungi? For the past 2 years, we debated this question. And I mean debated. https://t.co/DbFicSityY #TansleyReview@NewPhyt 1/n
NEW Publication!!😄
Phylogenomic analysis of Opisthokonta (#animals, #fungi, & relatives) reveals a largely robust #phylogeny, but uncovers orthology inference methods as a major contributor of #incongruence. This study provides a robust framework for studying the #Opisthokonts
NEW Publication (& I'm last author!)😊
We discuss #phylogenomic methods🌲 for leveraging reticulate #evolution🧬 to elucidate the timing of evolutionary events⏱️, like disentangling #introgression from ILS
So happy to see my fantastic mentee @SaelinBjornson get this work out!
Difference in color between my old mushroom knife (which I just broke—my fault—after years of use) vs. its brand new replacement. I was surprised! Opinel No. 8 Pruning, still my favorite mushroom knife by far. Plus, the jack o' lanterns that broke it! #fungi#foraging

"Spread the word, not the fungus", we've gotta start taking fungal invasions seriously too!
