@dmboomer @NateSilver538 I think Talarico will outperform Beto, but not sure if it will be enough. I think the key question is whether Paxton is toxic enough that enough non-MAGA Republicans and right-leaning independents simply don’t vote in the Senate race.

@ADHDspews @daviddunn177 Trump was found by a jury to have raped Carroll (under most states’ definition of rape). In a close election (which is literally a trial by public opinion) it shouldn’t be surprising that Platner is out. He wasn’t going to win the election with these credible rape charges.

@PfPopulist @Mason__McCann @FelixFan03 I mean yes, but only because the other option is Collins (who voted to put a rapist on the SC). Platner was only 2 points ahead of her in the latest poll before the allegations came out. The allegations are credible enough that he clearly wouldn’t win.

@Kylypso @Mason__McCann Once Schumer cleared the way for Mills, Platner was the only serious alternative. I have always found his support to be more wishful thinking from out of state consultants than serious grassroots trying to manufacture a populist candidate than actual support.

@Mason__McCann Mainers never really got to decide because after Schumer cleared the path for a reluctant Mills, Platner was the only serious alternative. Thankfully there are some great alternatives in the wings who probably should have been in this campaign all along.

@Mason__McCann Fully agree with this take. That said neither Mills nor Platner were giving Mainers a chance to pick their nominee. Both were shoved down their throats by out-of-state operatives giving ME Dems a choice between someone who didn’t want to run or someone with a closet of skeletons.

Dems won’t. In a close election it only takes a small number of voters to find the credible accusation credible for him to lose.

An election is literally a trial by public opinion. Collins voting to affirm a rapist still isn’t as bad as potentially being a rapist.

@roaring_goober @grahamformaine A jury found that Trump raped E Jean Carroll and then defamed her. Yes I know that it wasn’t technically rape but that’s because NY’s definition of rape is stupid. In most other states the exact behavior a jury found him liable for would be considered rape.

@LyingLiars96 @atrupar The only positive thing I can say about this is that it’s at least corruption right out in the open where everyone can see. All of the money is still going to go to cronies and elites who can navigate the system, but at least it’s not happening behind closed doors.
