Elevated fire weather conditions are expected across portions of the northern and central Sacramento Valley today due to gusty southerly winds and low relative humidity. Be sure to practice fire weather safety! #CAwx

Where we are ➡️ Where we should be 🌡️
Heating up for those at lower elevations away from the coast! Some areas will be near 25 degrees above average for the date. Take breaks if working outside and find shade/shelter if A/C is not available. #CAwx
Join us tomorrow, February 25th at 10am PT for the continuation of the California Fire Science Seminar Series. @Weather_West will present Shifts in seasonality and increases in hydroclimate whiplash are increasing California wildfire risk. Register here: https://t.co/iWYpGK6SnT
Crazy to think this is the same street, right? This recent project along Sage Canyon Road in Napa County is a great example of the type of roadside fuels reduction work that CAL FIRE and our partners do across the state.
By reducing the volume of vegetation along roadways we reduce the likelihood of wildfire ignitions from sparks and heat from poorly maintained vehicles or dragging chains. Clearing vegetation from roadsides also improves egress by reducing fire hazards and ensuring unobstructed access for emergency vehicles and evacuating residents.

Monday at our Unit headquarters in St. Helena, we are hiring 91 firefighters on emergency appointments. We will follow this by hiring an additional 31 firefighters back on Feb. 3. The move will allow us to staff one engine at all 21 CAL FIRE stations in the Unit along with our firefighter hand crews out of the Hood Mountain Fire Center in Santa Rosa.
The bolstering of staffing levels will allow our Unit to continue to support operations in Southern California while ensuring we remain adequately staffed here in the North Bay for emergency response and to ramp up fuel reduction efforts.
Our systems remain 100% operational while our radio operators sleep in shifts and our engineers are throwing everything they have at it to sustain up to 100,000 requests per second with an average response time of <20 ms. We’ll be up all night with you, Angelinos. 🫡

California is receiving incredible support from Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, and Nevada in the battle against wildfires. These out-of-state resources are essential in helping to mitigate these fires and protect lives and property.
Available through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a national agreement enabling states to share resources during disasters, this collaboration has been instrumental in ensuring that essential personnel, equipment, and support are readily accessible when needed.

San Diego is now officially the driest start to the water year (since October 1) with only 0.14 inches so far putting it in first place #dry#climate#socal#cawx but in contrast far northern California is much above averages
#PalisadesFire Incident will be holding a 30 minute virtual town hall meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. Please visit the #CALFIRE IMT 2 Youtube to watch live. Questions directly related to the incident operations will be answered. #LAFD#LACoFD#LAPD#LASD
🚩Red Flag Warning and High Wind Warning issued for most of LA County by @NWSLosAngeles.
Take action now to prepare for damaging winds, power outages, and extreme fire risk.
Those in mountain, canyon, and foothill areas should be ready to evacuate at a moment's notice!
Fire Weather Watches & High Wind Watches are in effect Tuesday-Friday next week (see graphics for exact times). Strong/damaging N-NE winds will be possible, likely peaking Tuesday-Wednesday. Stay up to date with the forecast as we get closer to the event. #CAwx#LAwind#Ventura
Given combination of strong/damaging wind potential, & vegetation that will approach record-dry levels for early Jan date, "extremely critical" wildfire conditions are possible Tue-Thu. This is definitely one to watch, given magnitude & antecedents. #CAwx#CAfire [3/3]
An unusual retrograding (westward-moving) low pressure system will move southwest-ward over SoCal, bringing a multi-day stretch of moderate to strong downslope winds. With very strong upper support, strong winds to extend to areas that don't usually see them. #CAwx#CAfire [2/3]
A major offshore wind & fire weather event will develop this week across much of Southern California. Essentially no rain has fallen so far this season in SoCal, and a high-end "atmospheric blowdryer" wind event will greatly increase wildfire risk by Tue/Wed. #CAwx#CAfire [1/3]
📈 Did you know… this year compared to last, we reached 7.2 million active users (3.7x ⬆️), served 1/2 billion pageviews (4.4x ⬆️), raised $5.6 million (4.6x ⬆️), and hit #1 in the App Store nationwide in September?
