I don't like Awkwafina exclusively because she used Blaccent to get famous, claimed it was because she grew up in Queens around Black people and then launched a show about her life and there were no Black people in it.
Adult friendships require GRACE. They’re not ignoring you or “being weird” they’re battling something mentally. It’s not always personal because they couldn’t make your birthday. I’m sure they wanted to but finances maybe made it not possible. You have to think beyond just you.
I think what annoys me more, is the fact that yall will push for optics in every way as “representation” and promote it. You were foaming at the mouth over Halle being Ariel, the slut walk, LGBTQIA+ being represented in film, etc. What did the slut walk do? What does having black people in movies do? If you can find an answer, I’m sure you can find an answer for this. Helping the community isn’t always a big check being written or 100,000 black kids getting scholarships.
Sometimes it’s simply inspiring one person using unity. Our children’s minds are being warped and you’re mad about a positive event that can show black boys that they can be in a space with their own and learn without confrontation?
Our community is in shambles for a lot of reasons. One of which is, many thinking every contribution should be the big crazy event to impress you. Do something. Bc the ones not doing anything the ones talking. Give me pictures of a project you’ve done right now that’s contributed to the community. Quickly. I have certificates organizations have given me for my work. Let’s see yours.
