🇿🇼 War Veterans: Economy Is Not Working For Us 46 Years After Independence

Forty-six years after Zimbabwe attained Independence, some war veterans say the country's economy is failing to deliver the prosperity and dignity that many fought for during the liberation struggle.
Their concerns come amid reports of bicycles being distributed to some war veterans, a gesture that has sparked debate about whether such interventions adequately address the economic challenges facing former freedom fighters.
Critics argue that while any support may be appreciated, bicycles cannot substitute for sustainable economic empowerment, decent pensions, quality healthcare, affordable housing, and meaningful opportunities for war veterans and their families.
Many war veterans say the challenges they face mirror those confronting millions of ordinary Zimbabweans:
High unemployment
Rising cost of living
Inadequate healthcare
Poor infrastructure
Limited economic opportunities
Currency instability
The concerns have reignited a broader national discussion about priorities in government.
Increasingly, citizens are questioning why political leaders are dedicating significant energy to Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3) when the economy remains under severe strain.
For many Zimbabweans, the priority is clear:
✔ Economic growth
✔ Job creation
✔ Industrial revival
✔ Investment attraction
✔ Reliable electricity
✔ Functional healthcare
✔ Quality education
✔ Improved livelihoods
Observers note that successful economies around the world focus on expanding opportunity, increasing productivity, and creating jobs rather than becoming consumed by political battles over tenure and constitutional arrangements.
Many citizens argue that Zimbabwe's greatest national project today should be rebuilding the economy and restoring hope, particularly for young people who continue to leave the country in search of opportunities elsewhere.
As the debate over CAB3 continues, a growing number of Zimbabweans are asking whether constitutional amendments should take precedence over bread-and-butter issues affecting everyday life.
For war veterans and ordinary citizens alike, the message is becoming increasingly clear:
The economy should be the number one priority.
Key Question
After 46 years of Independence, how can Zimbabwe create an economy that works for everyone, including the men and women who fought for the country's freedom?

Change the News. Change the Narrative. Change the World.
The Barracks have spoken! V11 scattered across Tongogara Barracks (JMT) soldiers are done being used for personal enrichment and unconstitutional games. Loyalty to the Constitution and the People of Zimbabwe, not one man. The Army is watching. Ignore at your own peril.
GET YOUR HEADS EXAMINED…Some people really amaze me.
Do you honestly believe that if the Chamisa you constantly gaslight and vilify had agreed to be co-opted by ED, there would have been any need to hire that Chabangu as the manufactured face of a government-sponsored opposition?
Do you think they would have needed CAB3 to deal with the fallout from a disputed presidential election? Would CAB3 have been necessary?
Do you think they would have spent billions in taxpayers' money buying off individuals, organizations, and institutions, including some within the region, to discredit and destroy the very person they were supposedly working with? Why spend billions of taxpayers' dollars buying influence, recruiting allies, mobilizing institutions and giving cars, to destroy the credibility of someone who was supposedly on your side?
Why would an ally cause you sleepless nights.
Give us a break! Kwanai! Miswai! The logic simply does not add up. If someone is part of your project, you do not expend enormous resources undermining, isolating, and dismantling them. You do not wage a sustained campaign against an ally. The very existence of these efforts points to entrenched animosity.
We’re chalk and cheese, oil and water. We can’t mix! And I’m proud of that record! #TheNew
🇮🇷 So FIFA has withdrawn its World Cup ticket allocation to Iran 🇮🇷 just days before the tournament begins
Can all the nations playing at the World Cup 🏆 return home please.
Football is supposed to be free of politics, it’s supposed to unite people all over the world unfortunately that’s not the case anymore and it has lost its purpose and should be cancelled
Chamisa: I don’t agree with the mutilation of the constitution. I am a constitutionalist, I believe in constitutionalism and any leader who does not believe in constitutionalism is not worth a salt 🧂
Reasons why Gaddafi was killed:
1. Libya has no electricity bill, electricity came free of charge to all citizens.
2. There were no interest rates on loans, the banks were state-owned, the loan of citizens by law 0%.
3. Gaddafi promised not to buy a house for his parents until everyone in Libya owns a home.
4. All newlywed couples in Libya received 60,000 dinars from the government & because of that they bought their own apartments & started their families.
5. Education & medical treatment in Libya are free. Before Gaddafi there were only 25% readers, 83% during his reign
6. If Libyans wanted to live on a farm, they received free household appliances, seeds and livestock.
7. If they cannot receive treatment in Libya, the state would fund them $2300+ accommodation & travel for treatment abroad.
8. If you buy a car, the government finances 50% of the price.
9. The price of gasoline became $ 0.14 per liter.
10. Libya had no external debt, and reserves were $150 Billion (now frozen worldwide)
11. Since some Libyans can't find jobs after school, the government will pay the average salary when they can't find a job.
12. Part of oil sales in Libya are directly linked to the bank accounts of all citizens.
13. The mother who gave birth to the child will receive $5000
14. 40 loaves of bread cost $0.15.
15. 25% of Libyans had all Ilisna diplomas.
16. Gaddafi has implemented the world's biggest irrigation project known as the "BIG MAN PROJECT" to ensure water availability in the desert.
If this is called “DICTATORSHIP” I wonder what democracy is?
Not a single ANC T shirt was burned, torn, or dragged on the floor by those who joined EFF from ANC. Whether you agree with the EFF or not, that level of discipline remains one of the most notable aspects of its early growth. Revolutionary discipline & political Maturity 💯
IT’S DIFFICULT TO TRUST…
Considering all that I have been through, it takes tremendous strength, and an abundance of God's grace, to keep trusting people.
Politics has taught me that human nature is complex. Too often, people wear masks, say what suits the moment, shift with the wind, and are not always honest. Loyalty can be fleeting, and sincerity can be hard to find. The love of money and power has destroyed many.
Yet despite it all, I choose to trust. Not out of naivety, but out of magnanimity, courage, and faith. In a world that often rewards cynicism, remaining open-hearted is no small thing. By God’s grace, #Godisinit I continue to believe in the good that still exists in people…because refusing to trust would mean allowing the bad to contaminate the good.
That’s my story!
Blessed Sunday.
This is what the little Ziyambi Ziyambi wants to change and replace this with his layman wannabe lawyer wordings. This is General Chiwenga reading the section that gives The Army humility. It is so amazing that an un electable minister wants to go above our defence forces
A HERO’S WELCOME…It was a pleasure to welcome Citizens’ Hero, Godfrey Karembera, affectionately known as Madzibaba veShanduko and family, to our offices in Harare. A loyal, committed, and dedicated cadre, he remains steadfast and determined in the pursuit of a New Great Zimbabwe within our lifetime.
We extend our profound appreciation to the Citizens Welfare Bureau and to all the citizens who supported and contributed to his family’s welfare throughout this difficult period of persecution. Your solidarity and generosity have been truly inspiring.
The citizens are organizing.#Chapwati #NewGreatZimbabwe
IT WAS ALL ABOUT ED POWER GAMES…ED worked with Tshabangu to engineer illegal recalls that ultimately handed ZANU-PF a fraudulent two-thirds parliamentary majority, in clear violation of both the law and democratic principles.
Unfortunately, when the recalls began, many failed to recognize that this was part of a long-planned strategy orchestrated by ED. It was never about the claims that the CCC lacked a constitution or formal structures. In Zimbabwe you can not submit party candidates to ZEC without a party constitution. Parliament and Mudenda were in possession of CCC constitution but chose to ignore it on instructions from his Zpf Boss. Those no constitution and nil structures narratives were merely a smokescreen.
Some individuals, driven by their disagreements with Nelson Chamisa, celebrated the recalls, unaware that they were in fact celebrating the erosion of democracy and the weakening of our nation. The foundation for the current constitutional amendment agenda was laid in 2023 through those engineered and unlawful recalls.
However, all is not lost. The real struggle lies ahead. The task before us is to continue fighting for a Citizens' Government—one that reflects the true will and aspirations of the people of Zimbabwe. The future of our country depends on the determination of its citizens to defend voice, agency and fundamental rights .

Open Letter to Hon. Daniel Garwe
Hon. Garwe,
Zimbabweans are watching their homes being demolished, and many are asking one question: where was the government when these houses were being built?
These homes were not built in a day. People spent years working, saving, borrowing money, and sacrificing to build them. Entire communities grew over time. Thousands of people invested everything they had because they believed they were securing a future for their families.
Today, bulldozers are arriving.
But where are the people who sold the stands?
Where are the officials who allowed these settlements to grow?
Where are the people who collected money from desperate home seekers?
Why is it that when things go wrong, the first people to suffer are always ordinary citizens?
Musatitora semapenzi.
People are struggling to understand how settlements can exist for years without action, only for demolitions to begin after families have already invested their life savings.
Nobody is above the law. If the houses were built illegally, then everyone involved should be held accountable. Accountability should not stop with homeowners. It should reach every person who played a role in creating this situation.
What Zimbabweans want is fairness.
The law must not only be applied to the powerless. It must also be applied to those with influence, authority, and connections.
Right now, many families are losing everything they worked for. Children are being displaced. Parents are watching years of sacrifice disappear in a matter of hours.
That pain is real.
That anger is real.
And the questions being asked are valid.
Zimbabweans deserve answers. They deserve transparency. They deserve leadership that accepts responsibility instead of simply shifting the burden onto ordinary people.
History will remember these demolitions. It will also remember whether those responsible for creating this crisis were ever held accountable.
The people are watching.
Thomas Chizhanje
Madzibaba veShanduko has been found not guilty after spending months in detention for an offence he did not commit. While we welcome his acquittal, we must not lose sight of the injustice he endured. An innocent man spent months behind bars for a case that has now been dismissed. His acquittal is not only a vindication of his innocence but also an indictment of a system that subjected him to unlawful and unnecessary detention. #NoTo2030
Leaked audio: Angel drives onslaught against Apostle Java
Police on Monday laid siege on the Tabernacle of Grace (TOG) headquarters in Harare where they interrogated workers and pastors over the whereabouts of the church’s leader Apostle Bastirai Java.
The detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) indicated that they wanted Apostle Java in connection with a viral audio that laid bare controversial businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei’s plans to become Zimbabwe’s next president.
The audio that was leaked last Wednesday featured a conversation between the church leader and someone suspected to be a senior journalist.
Nine CID officers in five vehicles stormed the church premises in the morning and summoned workers and pastors for questioning before driving to Apostle Java’s house, where they sought details of his cars and verified his residential address.
Apostle Java’s young bother, Pastor Simba was among those interviewed.
The raid followed a visit to his church premises in Tynwald and Ruwa on Sunday by CID officers in an Isuzu vehicle with registration number AFU 9923.
According to insiders, the CID did not disclose the charges they intend to lay against Apostle Java over the audio.
The conversation was allegedly based on what controversial businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei told the church leader’s young brother, Passion Java.
The two brothers, however, have denied any involvement in the recording.
Critics said the recording exposed how Tagwirei has allegedly captured President Emmerson Mnangagwa and state institutions, including the army, judiciary, police, prisons, and others.
Tagwirei also claimed he was the next president after Mnangagwa and said he would use constitutional amendments, including the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 and another amendment he would introduce, to bury Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s presidential ambitions.
Most people in Mnangagwa’s inner circle were implicated in the 33-minute-long explosive audio, which Tagwirei’s online backers have dismissed on social media as a hoax.
According to sources within Tagwirei’s team, the audio has ruffled many feathers, and Spirit Embassy founder Prophet Ubert Angel is now reportedly leading an onslaught against Apostle Java.
“Angel has vowed to sink even US$1 million to ensure that Apostle Java is arrested,” a well-placed source said.
“On Sunday, before the CID raided the TOG premises, Angel’s boys, like Sham Hungwe, popularly known as Prophet Elijah, had already started telling people that Prophet Java would be arrested that day.”
The source said Angel began pushing for Apostle Java’s arrest on Thursday last week, a day after the audio went viral.
“He went to see Tagwirei to call for Apostle Java’s arrest,” a source close to Angel said.
“At that point he had already made a video of himself prophesying that a popular church leader would be arrested.
“He was forced not to post it on his church social media handles after he failed to secure clearance to have Apostle Java arrested.”
Angel, the source claimed, wanted Apostle Java to be arrested, tortured, and forced to issue a statement apologising and admitting that he lied.
“To Angel, that would be reasonable damage control and would also provide ground to collapse Apostle Java’s church,” the source said.
Angel has been fighting Apostle Java for years. This included allegedly trying to hire girls to frame Apostle Java for rape.
The allegations emerged amid a bitter, long-standing rift between Angel and Apostle Java, which involved accusations of extortion, blackmail, and smear campaigns.
The relationship reached an all-time low in 2024 when Angel allegedly hired hitmen from South Africa to eliminate Apostle Java.
Nigel Dutiro, Apostle Java’s aide filed an official police report at Harare Central Police Station over the alleged assassination plot.
