you cant "platform" someone that has a bigger platform than you. im sure josh gottheimer would appreciate teaching a bunch of young radicals a lesson in "electability" and the importance of moderation
Pretty revealing that what galvanized “centrist” Dems was losing to a couple DSA candidates not for example, losing to a bunch of corrupt fascists who want to end Democracy.
its ironic that this pivot to the center is what caused the democrats to lose to an incompetent fascist twice, & now there are far more democratic socialist electoral victories because voters recognize the moderates failure!
every victory z achieves is not only a victory for nyc, but a victory for the movement of democratic socialism. it proves that a more responsive politics that centers the working class is possible. its restores confidence in good governance. it also makes my job much easier!
Karl: Republicans are going to make you the poster child for the Democratic Party.
Mamdani: Let them.
We don’t have to ask ourselves what life looks like if a socialist wins. I won last November, and over the course of these last six months, what we’ve delivered for working people are the very things we were told were impossible.
We’ve delivered free child care for two-year-olds for the first time in New York City history. We’ve delivered tens of millions of dollars back to tenants who were taken advantage of by bad landlords. We’ve delivered 165,000 potholes being paved. And we’ve done all of these things while also delivering the lowest recorded crime in our city’s history.
That’s what it looks like to have democratic socialism. And what you’re seeing is that New Yorkers experienced this for six months and made the decision that they wanted to see more of it on the national stage as well.
-right wing dems yell at us not to vote 3rd party every 4 yrs
-we run leftists in dem primaries
-socialists win democratic primaries bc voters realize they’re actually invested in advancing the agenda rw dems simply lie about
-right wing dems demand socialists create 3rd party
Karl: Israel is a Jewish state. That’s in the charter. Do you support that?
Mamdani: I’ve said time and again that I support the state of Israel as a state with equal rights.
Karl: As jewish state?
Mamdani: I believe that any state that privileges one religion over another is one that I can’t tell you I support, whether it be Israel or Saudi Arabia or anywhere else. And a lot of that comes back to a fundamental belief that we should all be considered equal, no matter what our faith is.

leaving sofi stadium is a nightmare out of the 7th layer of hell. this city needs public transit. we shouldn’t be allowed to host massive events ever. we don’t have the infrastructure for it. massive parking lots and cars everywhere
Hayes: Endorsing against incumbents really is kind of the unwritten rule in this. Tish James, who was a very vocal backer of yours when you were running for mayor—and even a backer of yours when I think it was pretty politically controversial to be so—had this to say. She said she and other political leaders she’s spoken to are disappointed in Zohran Mamdani. “All of us are a little frustrated with the Democratic Party, but you don’t blow it up. That’s what MAGA has done.” What do you say to that?
Mamdani: I think, what is the Democratic Party if not its voters? And what we saw yesterday evening were Democrats across the city turning out and voting for a new kind of politics.
And I’ve been clear time and time again that I believe the only majority in our country is that of the working class. And what we saw is that a focus on the working class.
And I have a deep amount of respect for my friend, Attorney General James. And I also believe that these are the kinds of candidates that we need to see in Congress, as well as the five state legislative candidates that I endorsed that also won yesterday evening.
I made a promise to New Yorkers that I would use every tool at my disposal to actually transform this city into one that they could afford.
And one of those tools is using your political capital to ensure that the people who will fight hardest for that same agenda are going to be there, whether it’s in Albany or whether it’s in D.C.

My first real job in politics was in the late 1990s working for an obscure House lawmaker named Bernie Sanders. I’ve spent my entire adult life working to end the corporate takeover of the Dem Party. I’m now allowing myself to feel a bit of hope that the fight can be won.
