November’s tree planting took place at Sunart Fields near Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire. The 125 acre site is an ex-dairy farm which is being re-wilded and has featured in many news articles including The Telegraph, The Guardian and the BBC. Checkmate planted 100 Silver Birch trees.
The Knoydart Peninsula in the Western Highlands is the location for Checkmate to plant 100 Scots Pine trees in October. They typically grow to 25m but can reach 45m and usually live 300yrs although the oldest specimens are over 700yrs.

100 Scots Pine trees planted at the Buckhaven Community Woodland during September. Buckhaven is on the East coast of Scotland with views South across the Firth of Forth towards Edinburgh. Scots Pines can reach 20m in height and usually live up to 300 years of age.
Checkmate sponsored an Animal Ambulance which was delivered to a nature reserve in Uganda in 2020. So far it has rescued over 300 animals! It features in Episode 14, Series 2 of One Zoo Three, which was recently broadcast on the BBC.

Checkmate plants 100 Hazel trees on the Knoydart Peninsula in the Western Highlands of Scotland in July. The Hazel was known by the Celts as the “Tree of Knowledge” and makes excellent wood for agricultural fencing. Hazlenuts are rich in protein and flour from them is low-carb.
Government launches Help to Build scheme with £150m set aside for self-builders to borrow between 5% - 20% of the total cost of a self-build project’s total costs up to £400k or £600k if the land is already owned. Government expects 30-40,000 homes per year to be built.
