Barcelona is literally the biggest crybaby city in the entire world when it comes to tourists
They have less tourists per capita than most major cities, it's a bunch of upper middle class kids who want to find a woke way to be xenophobes
I’m a bit saddened and perplexed by how little Japan features in the imagination of those who think seriously about political economy, development, public policy etc. It rarely features prominently in any English language discussions beyond carry trade/FX and public debt. Maybe rail, maybe energy. (Excluding the usual boosterism which is unserious.)
It seems to me that Tokyo is the most fascinating example of urban policy: in any meaningful sense still the largest city ever, twice destroyed completely during the last century, eternally threatened by seismic catastrophe and tsunamis, a model of efficiency for public transit, walkability, public service provision, pollution. No city ever prompts me to ask “How on earth did they do it?” more than Tokyo.

honestly y'all need to watch more shinya tsukamoto. his films are so oppressive and sweaty. his characters are frantic, uncomfortable, sex machines. if you ever feel angry, really angry, just put on TETSUO or TOKYO FIST. it's pure catharsis, humanity as terror.
Thinking about how, in Infinite Jest, the VHS tape that permanently fries your brain’s pleasure centers is described as depicting a beautiful woman, bent over the camera in the way one bends over a child’s crib, whispering repeated phrases
Tweeting that I want to kill myself but not in a sad depression way but in a I understand that human sensibility and consciousness inherently is the cognitive implication of death, something the constructed machine will never be able to achieve
I did not expect the Twitter Left to serve up a conditional pre-endorsement of Niskanen's social housing work
America is so far below Faircloth limit that it's not actually a limit: ROAD to Housing can actually facilitate 235k new public housing units through Restore-Rebuild
