I spent some time with friends recently, and one of them vocally resented the money being spent on space flight, with some heat and emotion. (They most assuredly also had political objections that colored their view of Elon and SpaceX, to be sure.)

I didn't try to defend it in that moment, but I wish I had a way to express the joy and wonder of man's ability to fly a skyscraper around the world and land it on a patch of the Indian ocean where cameras were waiting to record the end of its journey.

There is nothing we do as humans more impressive than that. And eventually catching an orbital spaceship?
