A country like Nigeria, which requires significant work on its image and international perception, should have the best of us representing us abroad.

Not former governors who left no legacy, nor Politicians rejected by their people.

Imagine a former INEC Chairman whose name is tied to one of the most controversial elections in our history is being rewarded. These Tinubu handlers don’t realize the message this is sending?

Meanwhile, career diplomats who have spent decades studying international relations are pushed aside so that embassies can become retirement homes for politicians and dumping grounds for those the system wants to keep far away from local politics.

A serious government would have used this moment to rebuild our foreign service, inject credibility, promote competent officers and shape a real foreign policy direction for 2026 and beyond.

Instead, we got another round of political IOUs disguised as national appointments.
Another round of recycling the same old actors.
Another reminder that our institutions are shrinking while patronage expands.

Nigeria deserves better than this endless compensation politics

Diplomatic missions should advance national interest, not political settlement.
We cannot keep calling the same people to fix the problems they helped create

Until we break this cycle of rewarding friends and sidelining merit, our global image will remain confused, our diplomacy will remain weak, and our governance will remain stuck in the same revolving door of recycled leadership.

Nigeria deserves competenc, not cartel continuity.
