Academisation was sold as a way to free schools up. For support staff, it's done the opposite.
50:1.
For every academy trust worker who says their workload has gone down, fifty say it's gone up.
If you're a TA, cleaner, caretaker, lunchtime supervisor or admin in an academy school, you don't have to carry this alone.
Join GMB. Stand with school support staff.

My big bro is running the London Landmarks Half Marathon this weekend AND the London Marathon in 2 weeks 🏃♂️ hoping to raise £100/mile for Breast Cancer Research so doing your bit for charity is easily achieved by donating here to this great cause - https://t.co/mqQQfeHlsI

Whilst increased training, development and support for SEND in schools is crucial, it is essential that those staff on the 'frontline' with these children - support staff - are included and that funding for this, and for ensuring appropriate pay, is also provided
SEND reform must recognise the key role of school support staff.
Responding to the Government’s announcement on SEND funding, Lisa Bangs, GMB Senior Organiser, said:
“Additional funding for SEND provision is very welcome, but the Government’s plans must recognise those staff at the forefront of meeting the needs of SEND pupils: school support staff.
We know there are increasing numbers of SEND pupils in London and yet there is a lack of training and recognition for the staff working with those pupils.
Recruiting and retaining skilled and dedicated support staff requires ensuring they are valued, trained, and paid properly. The failure to do this means some areas are struggling to retain experienced staff.
We have consistently called for job descriptions to be updated to reflect the responsibility support staff have for SEND provision and for recognition of their valuable work through the payment of SEND allowances.”

Been a while since I could confidently share agreement with a Brighton & Hove City Council Labour administration post but challenging a further Academy risk to the BHCC family of schools gives me just such an opportunity...
Coombe Road should say thanks but no thanks to TPA ⛔️!
Daily Fail loves a yearly article on cost of trade union facilities..
Forgetting it wrote of higher costs in 2023, it also fails to give any perspective - for local authorities total cost of union time has actually fallen since '22-'23 & remains around just 0.7% of total pay bill
Public spending on union officials to be kept SECRET under Labour's workers' rights overhaul - and reps will get more time off to push diversity and inclusion https://t.co/mb0wK9fIFm
Today marks the point in the year when women essentially stop getting paid for their labour.
National Equal Pay Day shines a light on the gender pay gap, and the ‘unexplained’ part - that’s pure discrimination in how women’s work is valued.
Our equal pay campaigns exist to change that.
