And then you sit with them in that room long enough, and it dawns on you. They are human too. Just like you. Maybe the only thing standing between you and some of the things you admire is access.
I think sometimes, imposter syndrome makes us give people too much power in our minds.
Have you ever walked into a room where there are people you consider great? Maybe people you admire from afar, or people you don’t even really know, but somehow, in your head, you have placed them on a verrryyy high pedestal.
A lot of them simply had access to opportunities, timing, exposure, connections, and rooms you have not entered yet.
Sometimes, the things they do, you can do too. Some, you may even do better.
And I say this in the most respectful way. It is not that they are not good enough. They may be smart. They may be good at what they do. They may even deserve everything they have. But most times, we have already convinced ourselves that certain people are automatically superior to us because of what they have access to, and what we do not have access to yet.
Then one day, you find yourself in the same room with them. You hear them speak. You watch how they handle things. Their thought process. The way they respond to things.
And it dawns on you that maybe there’s nothing really so extraordinary about them. They are really just people.
I’m trying to like jewelries more, but I don’t think I’m there yet. For now, just give me my necklace and my small pin-point earrings, and I’m fine for the year.
