There's an interesting split going on with the Globe these days, in which its official editorials have become increasingly sober and timely, while it continues to support staff columnists who are living in a perpetual 2015
@AlenBrussa1886@jaydee77ca@raghu_venugopal@jkenney ALL countries on that chart, except Canada, allow surgeons to dual practice in public & private systems.
The sky has not fallen. In fact they're doing better than we are.
Time to stop with the false binary: it's not fooling Canadians anymore.
@PoliMaritimer And Carney's exceptional popularity is downstream of Trump.
The opposition is basically dead in the water as long as Trump is in office and attacking Canada.
Via could focus on making major intercity routes reliable, maybe even profitable.
Spend a few $b's fixing single-track sections, etc.
But no. They're gonna upgrade ghost trains serving dead routes.
And no improvement in the Mtl-Toronto corridor when Alto inevitably collapses
Things have gotten to a bad place when the opposition calls on the government to be more transparent with voters and journalists about an immensely significant trade negotiation, and a chorus starts screaming absolutely not tree MAGA how dare you. Over a request for transparency.
@banga_brian@jonkay It wasn't nearly as bad. I’d say things were gradually on the decline throughout the 2010s, then very quickly during the 2020s.
I still remember the first time I saw someone shooting up in public: I was shocked.
Now spend 15 mins on George St and you'll see plenty of that
@jonkay The fact that it’s legally and logistically impossible to do this in Ontario, and we just have to live with public disorder, strain on police, ambulance, courts, etc…
It doesn’t bode well for our ability to deal with more complex problems when we can’t even get the basics right
@jonkay If you ask our officials what is causing this, you’ll get boilerplate about “homelessness” and “addiction”, which is certainly true on some level.
BUT the problem could be greatly mitigated by institutionalizing a few hunded people. Is that really beyond our capacity to do?
Ugh. I mean he only stabbed the other guy 6 times towards the heart. How was he supposed to know that was lethal enough to be intent to kill *rolls eyes*. Unintentional manslaughter? Unbelievable. Our justice system is a joke.
