@amy_mulv Hey Amy - These are the only materials used. My students had inquired into the various forms of coding, read up to the part of the book where they are about to escape, and then I used a Google Form to survey which "type of escape" from The City of Ember would most interest them.
Students making predictions through code! Currently reading City of Ember with my G4 students. How might Doon and Lina escape? #Sphero to draw a map that can be replicated? A flashlight with #littlebits? A vehicle with #hummingbird? Results will come in December!
"Through the unit, I can ..." rubrics. Co-constructing these with teachers and students has helped teachers move away from end-of-unit "summative assessments" and put more emphasis on what the learner was able to know, do, and understand throughout the unit.
Destiny weaves its tapestry in anticipation of two souls colliding.
Uncertainty electrifies.
Adventure beckons, bridging the gap between static pasts and unknown realms.
Looking down upon a digital city with curiosity.
A new era of Crypt3d Punks has arrived.
The thrill of uncertainty fills the air.
What adventure awaits?

Very excited to be facilitating a workshop on a passion of mine, creating opportunities for student agency - "Empowering learners through coconstructing eportfolios" at AMISA Educators' Conference 2023 in Guatemala. Please check it out if you're attending the event! #AMISAEdCon
The process of forgetting starts as soon as learning finishes. Here are 5 research-backed strategies you can use when you absolutely need to make something stick. #BrainBasedLearning
G2 Ss inquiring into our changing earth by #engineering a prototype to slow down erosion caused by flowing rivers. They all saved their towns through their #designthinking and #teamwork!
Just about to begin HWEO online, with purpose and audience as the related concepts again. This should still be super valuable and interesting to see how we can apply the same strategies (Coconstruction of rubrics, speaking and listening) in an online setting!
Ss final prototypes to get Doon and Lina out of #thecityofember using #littlebits#sphero and #hummingbird. Draw a map, create a light, make a vehicle and a distracting song and dance!
As a research ATL check in, Ss created a "Research Skills" word cloud using #mentimeter, then ordered the "steps" of the research process. An incredible amount of data. #pyp#academiacotopaxi
@Flipgrid @CodingWCulture My students are using coding to create solutions to get out of #cityofember as we get near the end of the book. Sphero to draw a map, Microbits to create a flashlight.. so many cool ideas!
Hmmm - got me thinking about how I approach listening skills in the studio with students and in meetings with colleagues, and what I might be able to do differently tomorrow. New perspectives๐
Ss brought coding back to the basics today with some offline coding. Groups of three: one says the code, one records it, one acts as the robot. Working together to "code" the robot to stack cups.
@innovative_inq WWAPT. Our 3rd LOI was "the impact of innovation on society" including their host country. Students explained how their innovation built on past ideas, how it could impact themself, their class and the world.
Ss final innovations as part of their inquiry into how exploration leads to innovation. Students followed the Design Thinking process. Tools for stress relief, #sphero bots that clean the floor or move written messages around the room and improved cubbies.
Ss tuning into their own beliefs and values through the symbolism of an artifact of importance to them. What is it? What does it represent? How does it represent a belief or value? #academiacotopaxi
Ss inquiring into our central idea of โExploration leafs to innovation.โTrying to become more independent, and even leading in design thinking skills. They choose from an array of robotics kids to level up and lead others. #microbit#sphero#academiacotopaxi
