For almost 170 years, Sheffield FC’s identity evolved.
Not once did it lose sight of where it came from.
This image tells that story better than any press release.
From the earliest years, when Victorian football clubs didn’t even wear badges, through every subsequent crest, the club built on its heritage rather than replacing it. Different artwork. Different styles. Different eras. But the same thread ran through them all: history, continuity and respect for the world’s oldest football club.
Then came 2026.
The shield disappeared. The footballers disappeared. Much of the symbolism disappeared. A visual identity that had evolved over generations was replaced in a single step.
This isn’t about resisting change.
Every great institution should evolve.
But evolution respects the past. It doesn’t sever the connection to it.
When you are the world’s oldest football club, your badge isn’t just a logo. It is part of football’s history.
Which brings me to one simple question.
The Football Governance Act 2025 recognises a club’s crest as part of its heritage. Section 49 states that a regulated club must not make a material change to its crest unless it has taken reasonable steps to establish that the change is supported by a majority of its supporters in England and Wales.
Did @sheffieldfc take those reasonable steps?
If so, publish the consultation process and the results.
Supporters deserve to see the evidence.
If not, the Board should think again.
The world’s oldest football club deserves nothing less.

Really chuffed to have been shortlisted for Regional Journalist of the Year at the @SportSJA awards for 2025.
Local / regional journalism is really important. Covering the last 18 months at Sheffield Wednesday has been a responsibility I and others have taken very seriously.
Beats working for a living. UTO.

The inside of Hillsborough as Sheffield Wednesday fans protest Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership, as they boycott the club’s game against Middlesbrough. Last season, they averaged an attendance of 26,636 😳
Protest images are also being displayed outside the stadium all evening 📢
A reminder ahead of tonight’s Middlesbrough game
Tonight’s home fixture against Middlesbrough is live on Sky Sports, giving us a national stage. The boycott is about more than one match. It is a visual message showing what life under Dejphon Chansiri would look like if supporters stopped renewing their season tickets.
By staying away, you are helping to show that our fan base will not continue to fund decline and division. Every empty seat reflects the desire so many of us share to see a stronger, better future for Sheffield Wednesday.
Your empty seat will do the talking.
Remember, this is a personal decision. Every supporter shows their love for Wednesday in their own way, and respect between fans remains vital.
If you are not going to Hillsborough, consider watching the game at your local pub. It is a great way to stay connected with fellow fans while supporting local businesses that miss out on matchday trade.

In the meantime, please FOLLOW and RT to help claw me back a readership. I’m quite strongly addicted to this steaming hellhole of an app and frankly require the serotonin.
