I would like to curse everyone who says “you have to want to get better” to people with a chronic illness that they stand on Lego bricks every day for the rest of their lives, that they can’t walk 3 steps without falling over, and that food all tastes like kale.
Omgosh I am totally on board with this. Can we please do the buddy system?!! Deport a liberal and their illegal. Two at a time.
I can support this. Can you?
I don’t give a rats ass who this offends, but I stand by it. War is coming, sooner or later! You the Government!! You are all a bunch of cowards! You raised the cost of living so high that both parents are always at work, rather than spending time with their children (single parents stand no chance)😥. You took God out of schools. Parents were told 'No you can't discipline your kids'. Well, now most of those kids are rude and out of control. You shall reap what you sow! We have taken a whole generation and turned them into selfish, entitled brats who have no respect for people, property or authority! You deem people with terminal illnesses and some with only a few months to live…fit for work!!! You allow our veterans of war to go homeless and hungry but give out millions to foreign aid!!! You save drug addicts over and over again but refuse to give free diabetic supplies to those who need them to stay alive. You bend over backwards to be politically correct, too scared to say enough is enough, in case you offend someone. You put the retirement age up so people must work until they drop. You take care of prisoners and give them everything under the sun (food, medical, education, representation, money, rehabilitation) yet you cause the elderly, those that have paid their debt to society and their families, to go broke caring for them either at home or in a nursing home... THINGS NEED TO CHANGE!
I challenge clinicians, especially the ones quickest to condemn opioids, to care enough to investigate why a patient is in pain in the first place.
Care about the patient who wasn’t blessed with perfect health or perfect genetics.
Care about the patient whose chart is complicated, whose diagnosis isn’t obvious in 15 minutes, whose pain doesn’t fit neatly into a checkbox.
Chronic pain patients are constantly told the goal is to reduce opioids.
Fine.
Then give us something better than a lecture.
Find the source.
Investigate the mechanism.
Treat the disease.
Treat the injury.
Treat the nerve, the joint, the spine, the inflammation, whatever is actually generating the pain.
I’ll speak for myself, and I suspect for a lot of this community:
I do not want opioids.
I want to wake up and not hurt.
I lived most of my life without them.
I became seriously ill, my body changed, and eventually pain became part of my everyday existence.
Medication became a tool because the underlying problems didn’t magically disappear.
So if you want fewer chronic pain patients taking opioids, here’s a revolutionary idea:
Give enough of a damn to get to the root of their pain.
Treat the cause successfully, and many of us would be thrilled to need less pain medication or none at all.
We are not asking to be medicated instead of treated.
We are asking to be treated well enough that we don’t need to be medicated.
Not Bad for a Bunch of Old Folks
They tag us with the label "The Elderly." Fair enough. The gray hairs outnumber the rest, the knees lodge a formal protest on every staircase, and standing up from an armchair produces sound effects like a transmission slipping into reverse. But that label misses the real story entirely.
We are the very last generation that holds the memory of an analog planet. We grew up when "Googling" something was impossible because the word didn't exist. If curiosity struck, you pulled a heavy volume of the encyclopedia off the shelf or tracked down someone who genuinely knew their stuff.
Childhood was an outdoor sport. The curfew was the flicker of the streetlights. Water came straight from the garden hose, disputes were settled right on the driveway instead of in a comment section, and our social network was simply called the front porch.
We gathered around fuzzy black-and-white screens to watch footprints planted on the Moon. We listened to music on vinyl, bulky 8-tracks, magnetic tapes, shiny compact discs, and now out of thin air via invisible radio waves.
Romance didn't come from an algorithm; it came from looking someone in the eye. We waited a week for a handwritten letter without flinching, while folks today lose their composure if a text message sits unread for forty seconds.
In a single lifetime, we crossed the chasm from rotary dials to pocket computers, manual typewriters to artificial intelligence, and folded paper roadmaps to a dashboard voice politely informing us we missed the turn. And through every single leap, we didn't get left behind—we adapted.
We bridged two centuries, navigated monumental shifts in history and technology, buried dear friends, welcomed new generations, and earned the perspective to know that tomorrow's catastrophe is rarely remembered next year.
We aren't museum pieces. We're living proof that you can welcome the future without surrendering common sense.
So whenever someone smiles and calls us "elderly," smile right back. Behind that word is an entire era of grit, evolution, and grace.
Not bad at all for a bunch of old folks.
My husband retired in July. For months prior and since we’ve completed form after form, provided evidence and letters, attended classes, consulted experts and spoken with SSA/Medicare for hours in person and on the phone.
Here’s what I don’t get…if all these controls are in place to ensure someone worthy gets their proper social security and Medicare, how the hell do crooks defraud the programs so easily?

@Greibach_VT Until it is disclosed where the seed-pods came from that Ronan found in the cavern and stole one seed from, the true 'age' of Sylvari will remain a mystery.
I woke up this morning, and something went crack,
Was it the floorboards… or was it my back?
My knees now predict each storm on the way,
And I need a quick nap after starting the day.
My hangovers last a full week, not a night,
And I grunt when I bend - yeah, that’s now my right.
I once stayed out late, now I’m in bed by eight,
With snacks, my blanket, and my heating pad date.
I Google weird symptoms, then panic, then snack,
I forget why I walked into the room - and walk back.
I’ve started to say, “In my day…” with pride,
And yell at young people when I go outside.
But getting old’s sexy - I’m wiser, I’m tough,
I’ve got stories and sass, about all crazy stuff.
So here’s to the birthdays, the creaks, and the grace -
I may be a senior, but I’m still in the race. 🏁
